Bermuda Youth Football Season Gets Underway
The Bermuda Football Association’s Under-13 Gregory Grimes Tournament opened with penalty shootouts, comebacks and 21 goals in the first round of the youth season.
At Shelly Bay, FC Bascome Gold defeated Dandy Town 4-2 on penalties after the teams drew 1-1 in regulation time.
Gebre Vickers gave Dandy Town the lead in the 67th minute, but Eli Oduntan equalised for Bascome in the 70th minute to send the match to a shootout.
Oduntan converted alongside Savio Goater, Declan O’Sullivan and Trevor Mills to secure the victory. Vickers and Royal Fubler-Tucker scored for Dandy Town.
At Warwick Academy, Warwick FA Boca Juniors defeated Vasco da Gama Red 21-0.
Ajani Trott scored seven goals, finding the net in the 14th, 31st, 33rd, 35th, 37th, 42nd and 43rd minutes.
Makee Simmons scored twice in the opening two minutes and added two more goals in the second half to finish with four. Lenox Brown, Archie Astwood-Simmons, Owen Foster and Henry Mohs each scored twice, while Will Leman and Eoin Muirhead also found the net.
Warwick Academy also hosted a match between Warwick FA River Plate and Vasco da Gama Green, with the visitors winning 3-2 after coming from two goals down.
Maximillion Norton put River Plate ahead in the eighth minute, and Billy Brogden doubled the advantage a minute later. King Phillips scored twice for Vasco, either side of a 17th-minute goal from Vasco Borges, completing the comeback.
At Bernard Park, Devonshire Colts defeated NVCC Rams Red 3-0, with goals from Quaid Johnson, Thalion Pogson and Deaz Tear.
On the adjacent pitch, Somerset Trojans beat NVCC Rams Whites 5-0. Ryan Medeiros Tavares opened the scoring in the third minute before Reilly Williams added two goals midway through the first half.
Zyare Ray scored in the 29th minute, and an own goal shortly after halftime completed the victory for Somerset.
