Man Denies Unlawfully Possessing A Rifle
In Magistrates Court yesterday [Mar 27] Richard Gibbons, 28, pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully possessing a rifle. The offence was alleged to have occurred on 24th March 2013 in Sandys Parish.
Gibbons’ lawyer said that at this stage, he was seeking clarification on whether or not the item was in fact technically a rifle. He told the Senior Magistrate that the item was an old spring loaded device.
Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set a trial date for 21 May 2013. Gibbons was granted bail of $5,000 with one Surety.

Its not illegal to own antique weapons however it is to aim them at someone… although even if he had the know how, finding the needed components and loading this musket may have been a tasking process
Actually, its not illegal to own a rifle in Bermuda as long as you are part of the rifle club (or whatever it is called) and have a gun safe in your home. I was always found this to be strange. Ban all guns!!! A person that is sane today, in possession of a rifle because they are part of a sports club,could snap tomorrow and use it as a weapon. Just because it hasn’t happened here yet, doesn’t me it hasn’t happened elsewhere, and doesn’t meanit will never happen here! There is no room or need for guns, riffles, archery bows or any weapon used “for sport” that is powerful enough to be used to hunt animals.

Spring loaded = Air Rifle , a childs toy in other countries. Everything fun is illegal here
Be grateful it is illegal. My cousin in NJ is blind because someone shot him (by mistake) in the eye with a “fun” and “harmless” air gun. The lawmakers of yesterday may have saved someone in your family this tradgedy by making these fun items illegal.
