Trio Sentenced To Five Years After Assault
Three men were this morning [Apr 10] jailed for five years this morning [Apr 10] for their part in a group attack in Southampton on Good Friday last year.
Sergio Robinson-Woolridge [22], D’Angelo Clarke [22] and Gavaska Bascome [18], all appeared before Puisne Judge Stephen Hellman to receive their sentences for their role in the fight at Southampton Rangers Club on 6th April 2012.
Crown Prosecutor Cindy Clarke recommended the sentence for the unlawful possession of an offensive weapon, the machete used in the attack, should be the statutory minimum of five years.
Lawyer Charles Richardson, for D’Angelo Clarke, pointed out that at the time Mr Clarke’s brother had recently been shot and killed. Mr Richardson said the victim, Joshua Place, had a gold chain belonging to Mr Clarke’s brother and his client was trying to retrieve it.
Speaking to the Court, Mr Robinson-Woolridge, “I’m sorry. I’ve spent hours locked in my cell and have had lots of time to think about what happened. I take full responsibility for my actions. I’m asking for mercy.”
An emotional Mr Clarke said, “I’m sorry. I was attacked. I was robbed. I was assaulted. I was full of rage and desperate to get my brothers chain. All I wanted was my brother’s chain. I am sorry. I accept full responsibility”.
Each man was sentenced to five years in prison on the first charge of possessing a bladed article, and also received additional sentences ranging from 18 months to 2 years for the wounding charges. The additional sentences will be concurrently, so the final time to be served was five years.
Time served will be taken into consideration.

i agreye with Big Boss… The police had two jobs, one was to arrest them and the second was to compile enough evidence so that the prosecutors could get them locked up. Its the fault of the Judge why their sentence was so low. I saw the video and i know all involved in this incident, those men deserved to get more prison time. Also with time served they will be out within the next three or four years. I hope Joshua gets a large settlement from the criminal compensations board, because if it was a smaller man being chopped and stabbed as many times and he did, they would have died. What sentence do they expect them to get? The got 5 years… I think thats a fare sentence tbh. They didn’t kill anyone and it wasn’t attempted murder so how long would you expect them to serve? If you knew anything about the situation you would know that the young man went off his head when a certain victim grabbed his dead brothers chain off his neck. Now, I can say he should have exercised more self control, but I was not the one in that situation. And in all honesty the person who did ‘snitch’ will have his day as well because he himself is a criminal, but no crime should go unpunished no matter which perspective you look at it because then we’d have an island of lunatics committing crimes and using excuses to commit them. Which we slyly already have. Soooo justice has been served, and justice isn’t always fair. If he thinks he was fairly sentenced he should appeal.
