Police On Scene After Assault At Rangers
[Updated] As of 7pm this evening [Apr.6], crime scene tape, police vehicles, police officers as well as the police forensic unit can all be seen at the Southampton Rangers Club after what we understand to be some form of a physical altercation.
Unofficial details indicate multiple persons and machete[s] may have been involved, however details are limited at this time, and we hope to update with official information as able.
The Good Friday holiday has already been marred by violence, with a man shot early this morning [Apr.6] in Sandys.
Update 8.54pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 6:15pm on Friday April 6th, police responded to a report of a serious assault in the area of Southampton Rangers Sports Club. As a result of a disturbance, one man was wounded and conveyed to KEMH via ambulance.
“His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crimestoppers hotline at 800-8477.”

What a sad day! Imagine the tourist and locals standing at the bus stop just leaving Horseshoe Bay and having to witness this mele with machetes. Wow, what a way to leave a great impression in their mind going back home. Very sad. I was up Rangers earlier and there was police presense there, so do not know how this could have happened.

Rangers has allowed the criminal element to hang around for years there. Why would any parent bring their children to a family day at this place? The regiment has to watch out for their soldiers that run past here during the 5 mile run because there are those who try to jump them in this area. I had faith in the international companies by thinking they would influence Bermudians to use less black and white in their language. I expected the international companies to be what leads Bermudians socially forward based on their home country rules. Sadly, they have clearly not done so.

@ Empora and @ Black Watch Pass – your comments talk about getting rid of “colonialism” and becoming an independent country. And that by doing this, crime will stop. This raises two questions: Is there data-driven proof that independence from Britain would reduce/eliminate crime in Bermuda? How would Bermuda in its present condition survive a move to independence? Bermuda is deeply in debt. We are broke. We are also the size of a small town with no export, no industry, no means of self-support if international business were to leave. IB has already indicated that they would leave if Bermuda moves to independence.
Without making this into a black + white issue, think about all the benefits and privileges that Bermudians currently enjoy….free and easy travel (no VISA requirements), get to live, work and study in Europe (UK + EU countries), only have to pay “home fees” for UK universities, Bermuda sports teams can travel freely to overseas training. All this would change if Bermuda became its own small-town Island with no link to the UK. Our passports would not be held in the high regard that they currently are, and travel restrictions would become a huge problem to Bermudians who love to travel.
Since our last Premier, people are repeating the “plantation rhetoric” without doing their own research. Do your own research with an open mind and find out what happened to the economy of many of the large islands to our south when they became independent. Did they have economic success, no crime, social harmony when they first went independent? Do they enjoy a healthy economy now? What is the average annual salary compared to Bermuda? Please look this up.
Sorry to get off-topic but our problems with gangs and violence (and those words are separated deliberately) are modeled from the USA and won’t disappear with independence.
