Photos #1: Catlin End To End Gets Underway
[Updated with additional photos] The Catlin End-to-End got underway this morning [May 4] with walkers and cycle riders starting in St George’s Square, with the walkers first out the gate at 8am.
The Middle-to-End walkers left from Albouys Point in Hamilton at 10am while the Middle-To-End Cycle ride are starting from Elbow Beach at 10.30am. Also scheduled to participate in this year’s event — either officially or unofficially — are swimmers, rowers, equestrians and paddleboarders.
Every year, on the first Saturday in May, around 2,500 people walk, cycle, or use other methods to make their way across the island, in order to raise funds for local charities.
Slideshow with 60+ photos of some of this year’s participants:
Numerous different groups and individuals take part in the different categories, many for special reasons or with a particular flair. The First Atlantic Commerce is entering a “Feral Chickens” bike team, and the Warwick Academy Bear could be seen out on the route.
The family of the late Alshante Brangman, all wearing t-shirts with Ms Brangman’s likeness, gathered at Albouy’s Point this morning preparing to copmplete the walk in her memory. The 23-year-old passed away in 2010 from a medical condition, leaving behind her then 3 year old daughter A’Saiya.
The Catlin End-to-End event is organised by the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust’s Board, and is supported by numerous local sponsors. The event usually raises about $250,000 annually to give to charities and has distributed more than $4.25 million over the past 25 years. You can view the second set of photos here.
