Woman Admits Assaulting Her Male Cousin

December 22, 2013

In Magistrates Court on Friday [Dec 20] a 42-year-old woman admitted assaulting her male cousin but denied threatening him with a knife.

Trena Riley pleaded guilty to assaulting her 55 year old male cousin by slapping him; but denied threatening him with a 9 inch blade brown handled stainless steel kitchen knife.

The two charges arose out of an altercation on 23rd November 2014. Crown Counsel told the Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that the two first argued over the presence of a truck on the property.

Ms Riley admitted that she came out of the kitchen where had been preparing items, and was not conscious of having the knife in her hand.

Ms Riley admitted slapping her cousin who, immediately after he’d been slapped, stepped away and phoned for Police.

Senior Magistrate set trial on the second count for March 2014. On that date the Magistrate will also pass sentence as a result of the guilty plea on the first count.

Ms Riley was granted $1,000 bail.
