Golf: Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup Final Results

January 5, 2014

Cooler temperatures and lighter winds met the competitors yesterday [Jan 4] in the final round of the Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup, much to their relief after the winds of day two.

Sam Wehmeyer successfully defended his Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup title with a solid final round of 82, taking home the championship by 11 shots. Arriek Douglas put together his best round of the week [81] to take second place ahead of newcomer Mykal Donkin [87]. Jordan Saunders made a move to win the Net Division after a final round of 88.

Champions - Sam, Dakota, Kenny

The 13 – 15 division was the tightest division all week and came down to a back nine battle between Dakota Lamb and Alex Mason. Alex stood on the 15th tee two shots ahead only to falter coming in, with Dakota making up four shots over the final four holes to take the title.

This was Dakota’s second BJGA major in a row after winning the HSBC BJGA International Classic in the summer. Kheary Swan put together a solid round [84] to get himself into third place and also to take the Net Title. The back nine was the undoing of Mikus Ming who finished in fourth place after threatening the leaders with a solid front nine.

Kenny Leseur was pushed a bit more than he was hoping for by Joe Watson, but he hung on for victory in the Open Red Division. Kenny had his low round of the week [95] despite a rough finish on the final two holes.

Joe had the round of the day with an 88 to leap into second place ahead of Tyler Emery in third [96] and Luke Watson [99] in fourth. Alex Withers-Clarke broke into a big smile as he signed his card for a 99 to finish in 5th place, only four shots out of third. John Dragonetti rounded out the division with a round of 127 on the final day.

A spokesperson said, “The BJGA cannot hold these events without the support of its sponsors, the golf courses and volunteers.

“We would like to pass along our thanks to the Fecchio family for founding this event and continuing to support it after over three decades. Aon Benfield was again the title sponsor for this event and we thank them for their continued support of this event and the BJGA programmes locally.

“Port Royal Golf Course has been a great host again this year and for the first time Bella Vista hosted our prize giving and did a great job catering to the kids and their parents.”
