  4. Triangle Drifter says:

Lets see…overtaking on a yellow line? What could possibly go wrong? The law of tonnage came into play. Truck is going to win every time.

  5. haha says:

    can’t mess wit d beast!!

  6. Rock Watcher says:

Who say’s you can’t overtake on a yellow line?
Yellow centre line ONLY means NO PARKING on either side of the road!!
    What else don’t you know!!

    • gmsgms says:

You are correct. Yellow lines mean no parking on the side. Additionally, one who acts with requisite caution when they drive would conclude that if a particular road isn’t wide enough or safe enough to park on, then it might be too risky to overtake in that section.

You’ll find that the sections of road that should be considered safer to overtake on are generally the ones where roadside parking is allowed. Straight and wide sections of road should be the overtaking zones, not corners, especially blind ones!

    • Bermy says:

Actually the yello line means no parking, stopping or passing.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

That is pretty much my understanding but what do I know? I am one of those horrible drivers who has not been CAUGHT speeding in over 25 years & have never had an insurance claim in 40 years of driving.

Rock Watcher is right. I don’t know squat.

      • Bob says:

Actually only the double yellow line means no passing..

        • Triangle Drifter says:

On US roads. Where is a double yellow here?

  7. Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

Everyone is very lucky that the truck was empty and wasn’t carrying a load, would of been a different result. Just a word to the general public…don’t test large vehicles carrying a heavy load, they cannot stop on a dime by you thinking you can beat them by pulling out of a gate at 2mph…or stepping out on a crosswalk because you think you have the right of way…be smart, look n listen and keep safe. I’m surprised that no one has been seriously injured on Reid Street…what is it with people that walk along in the main throughway or have their driver side doors wide open with two lanes of trucks cars n bikes trying to pass..one example is , and i wish i had gotten the number of her vehicle but she had the back door open into traffic and she was standing in the lane leaning in changing a babies diaper on the back seat…why couldnt she do it from the side walk out of danger and not being an interference in traffic flow…not to mention the idiots that just swing their doors open without even checking to see if it is actually safe to do so then glare at you as if …? ask anyone that drives large vehicles for a living…any way thats another subject.

  8. hmmmm says:

Is that truck supposed to be on that section of Harbour Rd? HA, HB, and HC are restricted….

    • Runner says:

Can u not read? Article clearly states both accidents took place on Middle Road.

    • BlueFamiliar says:

That’s Middle Road, so the truck is fine, but you’re correct about the Harbour Road restrictions that most seem to ignore.

  9. Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

well…the headline could of been…”Combustion vs Electric,Four Foreign Fatalities”.

  10. nuffin but the truth says:

    wot no speeding walls today!

  11. Legal Eagle says:

Always interesting that most tractor trailers are able to be driven on these road, go around corners and never cross the centre line, yet people in the smallest cars cannot do the same….

    • Um Um Like says:

      smallest cars? you mean bikes!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

You have noticed that too? What is it with people on bikes & cars? It is not very often that a wall or utility pole messes with a truck.

Then there are those who seem to think that a truck is as nimble as a car & can instantly swerve or stop to compensate for their inability riding a bike or driving a car.

  12. I know says:

Before any of you jump to conclusions

No one was overtaking may look that way but that was not the case.

You were not there and I was so think before you speak!!! This young man is very lucky.

    • RawOnion says:

      So, what did happen then?

      • Triangle Drifter says:

I guess the bike, having a mind all its own, took him right into the container & unfortunately scratched the paint.

    • Tricks Are For Kids says:

The majority of the comments are about the truck and the car…everybody going on and on about yellow lines n parking n overtaking, etc. ..i hope that the lady, 3 kids and the young man that were taken to the hospital are okay regardless of who is at fault…

      • Sandy Bottom says:

Me too. It looks like a nasty accident and little kids were involved. I hope they’re ok.

      • Fruity says:

Yep – I’ve been reading waiting to see what is said about the kids.. hmm. In any case i hope all are ok but I am really concerned about the kids.

  13. Rock Watcher says:

All this great advice! But so many people do not understand the simple rules!
Whatever happened to the Road Safety Officer’s tips in the weekend paper? Was always
a good talking point about who was right or wrong! We only hear from the Road Safety Chair when there is a fatal accident saying how sad but nothing in-between!
@Tri Drifter – I did not mean you don’t know squat – just not correct this time!
@Bob – Yellow lines mean no overtaking (passing)! Yellow lines will only be at the side of the road and mean no parking at any as per the sign that will be posted with it. If your referring to the double white lines on Harbour Road they mean no crossing the centre of the road – so in effect no cars overtaking! Bikes can overtake on the same side of the road!
So many things I don’t understand! Some of my favorites are; Bus driver’s should use two hands on the steering wheel (we may as well have one armed driver’s – as most only use one!) Kids standing on front seats – why would you do that? People who don’t understand North Roundabout – it’s simple you give way when entering from Harbour Road unless it is between 0730am and 0930am except for buses (they don’t stop anyway for no-one! This is everyday as the sign does not specify Mon – Fri (which I imagine is the intention) Taxis double parking while waiting to get into a Taxi rank or parking in a space without using a parking voucher (taking up a space for another to use and depriving the C of H of parking fees! People who turn right from St John’s Road into Saltus School and nearly cause collisions everyday (Peeps it is hard to make that turn which is why there is a No Right Turn Sign!!) Talking on cells phones while driving – why?
The Govt debt could be written off in a couple of years through fines!!
    Gonna love the comments!!

    • Legal Beagle says:

Rock, you are incorrect. A yellow centre line means – NO PARKING on either side of the road.

    • Celeryâ„¢ says:

Didn’t someone hit a police bike outside of Saltus because of that a week or so ago?

  14. Pat says:

It is very sad to see all the argument in here about the correct meaning of the yellow lines on our roads. It only confirms the reason why we have so many traffic collisions. Did anyone note the fact that the tractor trailer is so wide that there would be a major problem if someone was walking on that road? Bermuda’s roads are a mine field and with the larger vehicles trying to maneuver on these narrow roads we are just fortunate that there aren’t more accidents each day. Driving to work from the west end each day, I see many near misses and dangerous overtaking that is done by cars and bikes. The third lane is real and dangerous. I believe we all need to revisit the traffic guidelines with a view to educate ourselves on courteous road use. It is more important now that we have all thes large vehicles on the same size roads that use to carry much smaller car, horse and buggies and pedal bikes. We keep trying to widen every strip of road to accommodate the size of vehicles but the truth is we only have so much space.

  15. Truth is killin' me... says:

Roads are wet…slow the hell down..EASY!

  16. Lizbeth says:

Seems like quite few of us may need to take that TCD test with all the differing views on what the yellow line means.

  17. Whistling Frog says:

The lady was making a left turn existing Tanglewood Rd. Its almost like making a U-turn out into the main road depending on the driver with little experience.

  18. Sam says:

I was there. The car in front of the bike hit brakes once the mac truck came around the corner which caused the bike to hit brakes as well. Because the road was wet he slid out and ended up go towards the mac truck.

  19. Nuff Said says:

As the driver of a tractor trailer (and the one in question), we are just as wide as the buses traveling our roads but I don’t hear any complaints about them. I’m confident that if you was to check the traffic accident statistics year over year you would be hard pressed to find much collisions involving tractor trailers. Outside of pulling down a wire or two we probably have the least amount of accidents on these roads period! Also consider how you get most of your goods the next you go shopping for Anything/Anywhere as we truckers more than likely delivered it there. On wet roads this young man simply lost control attempting to stop and lucky didn’t lose his life. He was neither speeding or overtaking at the time

  20. Citizen Banned says:

What really bugs me is people flashing their lights to say hello. What do you think your horn is for?

Besides, everyone should know that when you flash your lights it means there’s a speed trap up ahead. And don’t get me going about SUVs.

  21. WoW says:

Oh dear. Hope that everyone involved especially the kids are ok.

  22. They only put yellow when dey run out of white paint…c’mon errybody knows dat!

  23. Loquat Tree says:

I Hope the kids are O.K. and were all in the correct safety seats for their age, something rarely seen enforced IMHO.

  24. These two accidents wrre close together…perhaps a common cause? As for cause and effect….children will unwitingly and often do distract attention…quite common….it is a parent instinct to attend their little ones….it can be expected…don’t you know dat?!@#$%&*-+()!”‘:;/?

  25. Me says:

What about the taxi only u turn around the bird cage?

    • Triangle Drifter says:

You need to understand that they are spashull. They can do whatever they like. If you have any doubts all you need to do is ask any taxi driver.

  26. Val Dickerson says:

What’s the rush? Slow down Bermuda!!!!

  27. Knows somone says:
