BPW Elects Committee, Announces Film Event

May 7, 2014

The Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda [BPW Bermuda] elected its Executive Committee for the 2014/2015 year at its Annual General Meeting on May 5, also announcing that the group would be showing the popular documentary ‘Girl Rising’ for a second time on May 10, 2014.

BPW Bermuda President Katie Partington Howarth said, “The 2013/2014 year saw BPW Bermuda have more of a presence in the local community, wherein events were held to equip and empower women.  With these current officers, our organisation is committed to continuing our efforts locally and worldwide by partnering with BPW International.

“Also, BPW Bermuda’s recent viewing of the documentary ‘Girl Rising’ was sold out and, as such, our first event for the 2014/2015 year will be a subsequent showing of this film.”

Set to be shown on Saturday, May 10 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Tradewinds Auditorium at 7.30pm, tickets for the BPW Bermuda screening of ‘Girl Rising’ cost $15 each and can be purchased online. Groups of 10 can receive a 10 percent discount by contacting bpwabermuda@yahoo.com prior to purchase.

“BPW Bermuda believes in the education of girls and women and the showing of this documentary reiterates this belief as we not only hope to inspire our community, but raise awareness on a relevant issue: the power of educating our women.”

Ms. Partington Howarth added, “In light of the recent news surrounding the kidnapping of many female students in Nigeria, BPW Bermuda joins with other organisations in maintaining the hope that these students will be safely returned.”
