Urban Cottage Commissions Chewstick Mural
Supporting its mission to empower creative expression, The Chewstick Foundation recently facilitated a public art mural in partnership with a private building owner and graffiti artist.
Nicole Golden Hendrickson, owner of the ‘Urban Cottage’ located at the Wellbottom industrial community in Warwick , recently commissioned the Chewstick Community Art Program to facilitate a 250 square foot graffiti mural on her building’s exterior.
Ms. Hendrickson said, “It’s already been a great investment. So many people have stopped to take a look at it, and it has really helped to beautify the area.
“The mural design also compliments my business model, and supports local artists affiliated with the Chewstick Foundation. I’m hoping the mural will help bring more attention to Wellbottom and encourage locals to visit the businesses operating here.”
Anyone interested in commissioning a public mural, or who want to support other initiatives coordinated by the Chewstick Community Art Program, is encouraged to contact the Chewstick Community Art Program Director, Tiago Garcia either by phone: 292-2439, or via email: tiago@chewstick.org.
“We want to help build relationships between visual artists and building owners” states Mr. Garcia. “Investing in public art and building exterior beautification projects is a great way to support local visual artists, and also helps to create new shared experiences for both locals and guests.
“The Chewstick Foundation has done a great job enhancing their surrounding area in the City of Hamilton; however we now want to explore island-wide public art projects. It helps to have talented artists like Juan available to paint, so we want to find him [and others] more spaces to create on.”

How about the Govt commissioning someone to paint something on the Great Wall of Paget?!
I assume you mean the new wall by the Paget stoplights. I, too, think it’s a really great spot for a mural! Of course, the stakeholders/property owners will have to agree to the idea. In fact, if they are interested, they should say something
I agree completely Hannah. Seeing collaboration between local artists in such a prime spot would be great for Bermudians and tourists alike.
I’m not even sure who the wall technically belongs to, seeing as it was a W&E project, but hopefully someone will pipe up!
