Tyler Butterfield Finishes 3rd In France Ironman
[Updated] Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield finished third at the Ironman France today [June 29], completing the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run course in a time of 8:40:23.
The two-time Olympian stood on the podium alongside Bart Aernouts from Belgium who won the race in 8:33:22, and Victor Del Corral Morales from Spain who placed second in a time of 8:37:23.
Butterfield, who had the biggest win of his career in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, came out of the water in 7th place clocking 51:53.
Through the first 27km on the bike course Butterfield was in 8th place, and he moved to 7th by around the 50km mark, eventually powering his way up to 3rd place over the remaining bike and then run portion.
Athletes began with a beach start and embarked on a two-loop, 2.4-mile swim in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The 112-mile bike course passes through villages and mountains, while the 26.2-mile run passed along the Promenade des Anglais.
