July 30, 2014

It’s time to start developing your sand sculpture design for the annual Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition, set to take place on August 30, 2014 at Horseshoe Bay Beach from 10.00am to 4.00pm in the 19th iteration of the contest, following up on last year’s successful event.

A spokesperson said, “Organisers are expecting a bumper crop of artistic endeavors for cash prizes in the four categories of competition, including children, teenagers, families, and open. The open category includes adults, companies, organisations, and visitors.

“All entries are free of charge thanks to our main sponsor: the Department of Youth and Sport and Recreation. Rules are simple; building time is from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with building lots assigned to competitors sized at 12 feet by 12 feet.

“Teams can be made up of a maximum of six people and your imagination can have no limit except that Bermuda’s pink sand must be predominate.”

“If you never have tried entering the sand sculpture competition, you do not know what you are missing; it’s a fun day with family and friends on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Horseshoe Bay. For those that enter, there are complimentary drinks and a whole lot of fun waiting for you.

“For those who require a bit of prompting and would like to understand and enhance their skills on building a sand sculpture, there will be two free workshops from 5.00pm through 6.00pm on August 23 August 24 at Horseshoe Bay, offering tips and techniques regarding building a sand sculpture.
