Riding While Impaired: Man Fined & Disqualified

August 5, 2014

A 39 year old man appeared in Magistrates Court today [Aug 5] where he pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, with the Court hearing this happened outside Hamilton Police Station.

Steve Phipps admitted to the offence, which occurred on 1st December 2013, and was fined $1,500 and disqualified from driving or riding all vehicles for twelve months.

Sentence was passed by Senior Magistrate Archie Warner after he was told by the Crown Prosecutor that police inside the Hamilton Police Station, on the CCTV system, had observed a man riding a cycle just outside the station.

The Court heard the man was riding the cycle in an erratic manner, and police went out and followed the normal procedure for dealing with a drunk rider.
