Photo Set #1: 2014 Non-Mariners Race
Droves of people made their way by both land and sea to Sandys Boat Club on Sunday afternoon [Aug 3] to take part in the last big event for the holiday weekend — the annual Non-Mariners Race. The race, or more correctly the “non-race” sees objects fashioned into watercraft take to the water, with most sinking within minutes.
The “non-boats” often have a theme based on news events, and this year was no different, with one float — called “The Sun Sets” — paying tribute to the closure of the Bermuda Sun newspaper, while another played on the now infamous “White Mental Illness” sign at the recent march.
Another float played on the “JetGate” controversy, with the over-sized Dunkley’s Dairy milk carton listing the ingredients as $350,000 missing; 1 Jet; 6,000 PRC, 3 Resignations, 1 NonGaming vote.
