21 Year Old Admits To Cocaine Possession

September 16, 2014

21-year-old Ryan Furbert plead guilty in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 16] to possessing 0.40 grams of cocaine in Pembroke.

Crown Prosecutor Garrett Byrne told the Magistrate that Mr. Furbert had been stopped on 24th May near Chancery Lane in Hamilton; and that a police search had discovered some white powder in a plastic bag that police found in his pocket.

Questioned by Magistrate Wolffe, Mr Furbert told the Magistrate that he was not a cocaine addict. Asked if he smoked cannabis, Mr Furbert replied: “When I have it.”

Mr Furbert went on to explain to the Magistrate that he really couldn’t remember much about that day. Mr Furbert told the Magistrate: “I was drunk and I woke up in the police station.” Mr Furbert reiterated that he was not a drug addict.

The Magistrate responded: “Run that by your family, your girlfriend, but not by me.”

The Magistrate then ordered Mr Furbert to attend the next day’s Drug Court session where he could be assessed and also where he could see where continued drug use could land him. The Magistrate also ordered the BARC and SIR reports. Mr Furbert was released on $1,000 bail.

  1. Reaching Him says:

I hope that someone that is close to this kid, or someone that he looks up to can get thru to him before it is too late for him.

I’ve lost a brother and a cousin to coke. They are both still physically here but mentally and emotionally they are gone. They are both hostages to the drug. Sad thing is that they can’t even see it because in their minds they are doing fine. The definition of “Fine” for them is working (or stealing) enough to pay rent, cellphone and the next high.

They have both missed out on their children’s and parents, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, vacations, holiday gatherings, weddings and much, much more. But because they get high so often and forget what they are supposed to be doing and what is really important they don’t even know or care about what they have missed out on.

I hope that this young man can get help and find new friends. He may have already lost his right to travel to the USA and I hope that is as bad as it gets for him.

    • BlessYourHeart says:

I know him personally & I can assure you that he doesn’t use cocaine

  2. Young Adult says:

I totally agree! My father and uncle were on coke. It tears families apart. I hope he has a mentor at this stage before it gets out of hand.

  3. obviously you dont know him,he took the blame for some1 else..not the smartest thing to do but.. we all make decisions in life and learn from them, let this be a life lesson to this young man.

    • Blowcain says:

Oh just like that PLP guy that was caught with the spliff in his cigarette pack?

He must not be a smart man, i can understand taking the fall if ya boys mommas catches him with some herb or something… But to take the fall for a half gram of cocaine that the cops caught you with…. You must be oblivious as f—.to think he tooktge blame for someone else.

Either that or he really is that dumb to fall into hell and on the stop list for his boys coke…

On another note, maybe it is time we start handeling drug offenses as a social problem and not a criminal problem. 0.4…? Really? I know its coke but f***. He doesnt seem like a criminal now does he? He just wanted a little fun.

Nab the dealers and not the users.

      • West Bye Story says:

I agree but if the dealers con o scare the weak into taking the blame, then are we any further ahead to punishing them?

    • West Bye Story says:

So, like he said, hopefully he will find some new friends. If he is hanging out with people that do coke, statistics show that he will likely become a product of his environment.

If what the defenders of him say is true, and he does not “do coke” then the reality is that he looks up to , or fears those that do which would be the only reasons why he would “take the blame”. Ignorance is not excuse for breaking the law!

    • West Bye Story says:

@think before you talk. Maybe you should take your own advice. If you swim with sharks, expect to get bitten! With all risk there is reward OR punishment. Even if wasn’t his, he was the “mule” and understood the risk! Even if he was conned, screwed up, was set or ignorant , he wasn’t set up, according to your remarks.

They call them drug “mules” for a reason!
