Jamahl Simmons Wins C#33 Bye-Election
[Updated: The PLP's Jamahl Simmons wins, gains 462 votes to the OBA's Georgia Marshall's 326, with 6 spoiled ballots]
The bye-election in Constituency #33 Sandys South is now underway, with the polls opening at the Somers Isles Lodge in Sandys at 8.00am this morning [Nov 18].
The bye-election will see the OBA represented by Georgia Marshall and the PLP represented by Jamahl Simmons, and follows the resignation of Terry Lister, who announced his retirement from politics in September.
With Mr. Lister having resigned in 2013 to sit as an Independent, the Sandys South seat was technically not being held by either party, so both can be expected to hope to pick up the seat.
The OBA won the 2012 General Election with 19 seats to the PLP’s 17, however when Mr. Lister resigned from the PLP last year it changed the breakdown in the House to 19 OBA, 16 PLP and 1 Independent.
Sandys South has a strong history of voting PLP for decades, having elected the PLP candidate[s] in the 2012, 2007, 2003. 1998, 1993, 1989, 1985, 1983, 1980, 1976, and 1972 General Elections.

Update 11.42am: Video with PLP candidate Jamahl Simmons
Mr Simmons said, “I’m very pleased to see that the voters seem to be coming out in a good numbers. It’s been a steady turnout since 8 o’clock and we’re hoping the trend continues through the day.
Asked how he was feeling, he said, “Very optimistic, feeling very positive about the day so far and we’ll see what the voters’ decision is after 8 o’clock.”
When asked about reaction, Mr Simmons said, “Very positive reaction, very positive reaction. So you know, we’ll see if it translates at the end, but right now it’s in their hands, and I think a lot of people are wanting to send the One Bermuda Alliance a message that they’re not happy with the way they’ve performed as a government and they want to see this seat restored back to the PLP to get some balance in Parliament.”
Opposition Leader Marc Bean said, “I’m just hoping the people of my community send a message to the One Bermuda Alliance. Deceit, fraud, lies, hoodwinking….at some point it’s got to stop and I hope this is the first step to stopping it.”
Update 11.42am: Video with OBA candidate Georgia Marshall
Ms. Marshall said, “I’m feeling very optimistic. I just want everyone to know that I’m absolutely humbled and grateful for the reception that I received at the doorstep.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out today exercising their democratic right and I just want Bermuda to know that I am absolutely thrilled to be a member of the OBA, which is the only party on this island that believes that women not only should be in the home, they should also be in the House.
Asked how it has been going so far, Ms. Marshall said, “Well, we’ve only been at it now for 45 minutes. We’ve had the initial crowd; I’m sure that as people are going to work, they’ll stop by and I anticipate that we’ll have quite a significant influx after work. So it’s going to be a fantastic day. The sun is shining, it’s not raining, and I’m completely energized.”
Premier Michael Dunkley said, “Any time people have an opportunity go to the polls to express their opinion, we support it 100 percent. Georgia’s done a wonderful job campaigning. It was an unexpected retirement of Terry Lister, who served Consistency 33 very well.
“Georgia has proven that she’s fantastic candidate and now we need to translate that candidacy into a representative for the people, and I believe that she will do fantastic job. She’s very strong woman leader and I’m delighted to have her on our team.”
“So I urge everyone: come out and vote, express your right, and we’ve got our team to support Georgia today.”
Update 7.37pm: With around 30 minutes until the polls close, people are congregating at the polling centre.
Update 8.01pm: The polls have now closed. In anticipation of the counts coming in, plus videos, photos and audio we have moved to a live blog format.

Lister endorsed the OBA last night.
“We” can only hope that them in Constituency #33 had got the message prior to voting and of course, paid attention
De SURROGATES outnumber de PRIVILAGED.
I can think of $800 million reasons not to vote for the PLP again.
Constituency 33, I hope you have voted for people and issues above skin color.
How can it take over two hours to count around 800 votes?
OBA you need to pull up your sleeves and start to work for the people. I remember the year 1998 when the UBP lost the election the economy was good and Bermuda had a surplus of jobs and tourist dollars. Going forward what do you think will happen next election. You have to understand you made promises that you failed to live up to. Anyone seen 2000 jobs? With that in mind you also have a new Premier who is trying his best to bring us together as a people.
Bermuda doesn’t even know what happen to the old Premier because everything is hush hush. In my opinion Craig Cannonier should never been around supporting Mrs. Marshall. She has a clean record, so why tarnish it with someone around who obviously was booted out as the last Premier with no clear explanation. Last time I voted OBA this time I voted PLP, not because either party is right or wrong but because the ruling party needs to wake up and govern.
You’re afraid to make decision because it will impact the votes. Why do things the wrong way when know what is the correct way?
Last time the votes!
2012 PLP 516 OBA 397
2014 PLP 462 OBA 326
difference 54 71
At SOS, the OBA did much more in the few years that they have been in operation. Why aren’t you talking about what the PLP has done if your really concerned about what the government is doing for the people.
Jamahl Simons has said that it “might be fun” to watch the Island “burn”. That’s a person that should be involved in Bermuda’s politics?
this was not about the race card but about wish person could best represent the area and the best person won now mrs marshall can go back under the rock where she has been all this time
Careful, this was a message to both parties, the PLP may have won, but they did so with less than 35% of the constituency vote, meaning 65% of the eligible voters don’t have confidence in them. For the OBA it was less than 25%, but given this has always been a PLP constituency… well, Mr. Simmons would do well not to be too inflated by his victory, much like Mr. Commisiong, he is responsible for acheiving the lowest PLP support in their safe seats in history.
Get over it.
Too much swizzle.
LMAO
If you know Mrs. Marshall so well then you should know she certainly hasn’t been under a rock. You don’t have to be out there spouting off at the mouth, you can do lots from the sidelines. So what have you done lately.
So in less than a decade, Jamahl Simons has a member of the PLP twice, the NLP, the UBP and an independent. One is bound to ask whether there is any political centre at all in this man. To judge by the choices he has made, he’s in politics simply because he likes the lifestyle.
Oh get a life
you get over it
And I can think of a billion why not to vote OBA/ UBP
There are 2 billion (+ 800 million) to never let the PLP run our country again.
Hopefully Mr. Simmons has figured out who he is and what he stands for and he is able to translate that into something meaningful for his constituents.
Why you keep saying OBA/UBP csuse the last time I checked PLP/UBP are about the same when it comes to who is who. Now could we trust those UBP/PLP or traders or position seeker. Should we say the rest home for thd UBP is the PLP? The OLD surrogates are gone home to rest.
it is spelled ‘privileged’
NOT PRIVILAGED
Maybe if you paid more attention at school you would have been more successful in life
This clearly sends a massage that the next election will be the ultimate nail biter –
could this be a sign of things to come! – despite all that is said – the PLP has just gained a seat.
which means that the OBA needs to truly pick up its game.
Quite frankly I didnt think the OBA candidate was a good choice anyway – but she managed to get 326 votes.- which is not to bad
but it just wasn’t good enough to win.
Lets hope that Mr.Simmons does somthing positive with his win.
It is funny how the OBA can print this on their Facebook page and then have Terry comeout and say he did not! I sorry (no I am not PLP), that is just Dirty! I was going toward OBA, but after seeing something like that!
Lies he did not
While my OBA friends are upset they accept she was an unknown and had done little to represent community and national issues since she has lived here. I will never forget how they tried to convince me she was the BEST person for the job even before the PLP picked their candidate. Now we will see her put in the Senate to give her a profile. You won’t see her any where near White Hill.
Good luck to both candidates.
It’ll be a busy day for you, but mark my words. Whoever wins better work like they have never worked before for Bermuda and NEVER for themselves.
Big time. If the winner doesn’t work after the election then it’s sure to go the other way next general election.
Rough times for the PLP – looks like they got their tent from the Beachfest lost and found!
LOLOOOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Times for them, its a safe seat!
Check the voting records, their percentage has been in decline every election. We shall see this evening whether they have managed to turn that around or may have lost the confidence of the constituency.
Yes but PLP will still win.
They did indeed win, but with least amount of confidence, even from their own supporters, in that constituencies history.
the PLP only just won and only 59% of voters turned out so don’t get too smug because I think the people are making a statemnt. Mr. Simmons I hope you can put your money where your mouth is, we shall see. Hopefully this time you’ll stay and won’t flip flop again.
An odd comment.
Sure is.
Terry Lister’s comments say it all….who is the better person to elect at this time? C33 voters have a serious decision to make
Terry Lister still looking out for the people of 33 with his comments.
We shall see….
Mrs. Simmons, your shoes are EVERYTHING! gurrrrl work!
Heh. good spot. They do look pretty sharp.
So stuck on material ! And you wonder why Bermuda is in the predicament it is in…
In a thread where most of the comments are OBAers attacking PLPers and vice versa, a more light-hearted and innocent observation isn’t symbolic of some materialistic attitude of the OP.
We who support the Govt. would like for them that will be voting today in district #33 to vote for the One Bermuda Alliance on their principles and for the betterment of Bermuda on a whole and notjust on “Traditional Political Lines”
Typo: not just
Yes, typo – should have read “Traditional Racial Lines”.
To vote “on their principles”? Those of the OBA or Mrs. Marshall? I am confused as to which “principles” I should vote on, R Ray?
The OBA has proven that “principles” are not their strong suit – - however, that can not be said about Mrs. Marshall at this point.
So based on your suggestion, I have a paradox as I can’t vote for the OBA because of their lack of principle, but could vote for Mrs. Marshall because she actually has principles (at this point).
See the confusion – lol.
Yet you can’t vote for PLP as they have no principles.
They have principals (me , myself and I)
lol
That’s not going to happen.
They will vote based on who is related to who, how their great-great grandpa always voted, how everybody else in the neighbourhood votes, how they have always voted, etc, etc.
It doesn’t matter who is the better candidate, people from this area are loyalists and traditionists.
Just like in Paget.
Same thing applies to the majority of OBA/UBP voters doesnt it? But it you want to be the poster childe for pots calling kettles black then by all means…
Now how sad is that. And they wonder where the term sheeple came from.
Are you serious how can you use Principle and Cannonair in de same sentence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You spelled Cannonier wrong, a Bermudian name. You must be a foreigner pretending to be Bermudian. You’re so foreign you don’t even know how to spell a Bermudian name. You’re definitely a paid foreign blogger.
Snap…good one. That Kunta’s not well in the head.
That went right over your heads. Some people refer to him deliberately as Cannon-AIR because of the Jetgate plane scandal.
Nah. He’s a paid foreign blogger. He can’t spell Bermudian names.
nobody can spell Bermudian first names
What’s a Bermudian name, most surnames in Bermuda originate from European slave masters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are 100% right “most” “Bermudian surnames” originated from European names. Since the first settlers did come from England. And if people migrated here from New World America they were once pilgrims from Europe. Slaves from all over the world (Africa, West Indies, Native American, European etc etc) were brought to Bermuda and were possibly given a false surname, “European surname”. Although if you what to go even further back from that, Sources have it that we might have all come from Africa millions of years ago and migrated to other continents. So if we all originally came from Africa, technically do we all have distant African Surnames????
Whatsamatter mate? Feathers getting ruffled?!
So you can’t spell Bermudian names, and you are a paid foreign blogger. You admit it, right?
There were no Cannoniers here in 1834!
Not a Bermuda name.
Will see….i thought Bermudians looked out for each other. Are you implying that Cannonier isn’t a real Bermudian? How sick and infantile. You are the best example of crab mentality that I’ve heard in a long time? do you say the same about Commissiong or Paula?
What does his name have to do with anything?
ur paranoid…a paid blogger lol
Let’s hope Somerset votes on the integrity of the candidate. These good, hard working people deserve someone that honestly cares and will look our for their best interest, not their own political agenda.
Well.. They have ! Thank you very much !
One thing I will admit, both teams and sets of representatives look sharp!
I wonder if Bean will manage to control hismself today ?
I LOVE when he speaks his mind, something his for fathers only dreamed about without being PERSECUTED.
Just Loving it.
He doesn’t have to be rude to peple in the process
Well he don’t know how to be rude sarcastically and diplomatically and beats around de bush like his counter parts, he just tells it like it is so get over it.
Don’t start no S… wont be no S…
So you are saying Bean is a dictator. His way or his trouble comes yours . Interesting.
So you wholeheartedly support the degradation and belittling of women… good to know.
There is speaking ones mind, then there is ignorant rants with no connection between the brain and the mouth.
agreed!
For those of us who really liked Mr. Lister, we are having a very hard time forgetting and forgiving the very harsh words unleashed on Mr. Lister by the Opposition Leader before his resignation. We found the personal attack distasteful. Like I said having a hard time forgiving and forgetting…
Learn to forgive. The bible teaches us that…
Ya that’s what they told de American Indians and de South Africans and they ended up losing their LAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kunta, don’t be angry at the Word, be angry at the life you have chosen. Every human has a choice.
Did you lose your land Kunta? You seem to have a big chip on your shoulder and you sound like you need therapy to help you out a bit.
And you definitely need an English grammar teacher to help you out.
Actually it went like this , the missionaries gave people the bible, then they told them let’s pray and close you eyes , when they open their eyes the land was gone
Kunta, we know how wiked people have been in the past. It is up to us to learn from the past. We can pave a much brighter future for everyone. We can talk about the past all day but why? We have the future that we can change.
Mr. Terry Lister already said who his choice would be…
@Sandys Girl, that’s to bad because now your decision is going to be based on negativity. Please seriously do some soul searching before making your final stamp.
@Truth and Grace. Thanks. Searched my soul and have forgiven.
and as proverbs 26:11 says…’As a dog that returneth to his vomit, `So is’ a fool that repeateth his folly.’ Stamp of approval goes to the Lady in Red…..
Enjoy de vomit.
That is beautiful!! So glad you searched your soul and forgave. Your vote was from a good heart not an angry one. Wonderful!!!
Really would have liked to have seen an Independent running
voting for an independent is a wasted vote
not one independent was elected in the last election
St. George’s BLUE and BLUE…ALL DE WAY!!!
either way you vote u ´r sxxxwd! the thing is if you vote Green you take the rest of us with you !
GOOD.
Troll
Yes he is a jacka** troll. Prob paid to be while the rest of us have to work real jobs. Prob didnt even vote in the last election either. Makes me laugh really. It should be a crime to be stupid here. That guy would be locked up forever lmao. Oooh look at me i can pi$$ people off from a keyboard. Whoopie. Smh
Seems to be working and it feels GOOD.
Wonder if Bean’s gambling shop is taking bets?
Yup and de odds are good.
For him, yep I’m sure.
Where is the free plate today PLP ?
Were people just fattened for the kill, so to speak!
How many voters seen are still rubbing their bellys from the free feed?
Are they going to vote with their stomach that feels good for one day or are they going to vote with what is between their ears & be able to feed themselves instead of waitng for handouts?
Sounds like a desperate scare tactic doom and gloom plea.
LMFAO
Marc and Jamahl – Suit etiquette. Learn it.
Two buttons: just the top.
Three: middle or top two.
Why would anyone think you were a gentleman if you don’t even know how to even dress like one?
#themoreyouknow
Have a look at Mr. Dunkley
He knows his suit etiquette. Two buttons: just the top.
Bitter and disrespectful. Political views aside.
I am not all there with suit etiquette, so I will just accept that you are correct, but shouldn’t your critique also include the other side, who didn’t bother to get their pants hemmed… I’m just saying, fair is fair, right…
Riiight!! That’s what we should base our vote on. Hmmmm!!
And may I remind you of the “Golf Course” in that area was estimated for a $4.5Million renovation and ended up at $24Million under the previous Administration. You know like the Barclay School @ $50Million and ended up at $123Million and all the other boon-doggles that no one knows where the “MONEY”" went.
And I am still looking for another $800,000.00 paint brush,as I need one.
Are you so foreign you dont even know how to spell Berkeley??
Ha! Yup Bluebird just confirmed they’re not from around here parts. Spelling Berkeley the way it’s pronounced by some people!!
Ya and boon-doogles, definitely Tea Party language.
Kunta…grow up or stay off the site
And he/she wonders why the country is in position we are in? Clearly doing nothing to enhance themselves professionaly and at least TRYING to get a job, and would rather sit on Bernews to drive hate nails into every anti-PLP comment!
What a shame!
I just love DEMOCRACY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMFAO
funny how u plp bloggers n plp people love to throw around tea party this tea part dat…u have no f***** clue what de difference is or what they about…if anything the plp is more like de tea party smfh. you lot just borrow examples and other peoples words
Republican :- White middle-upper class, Right-Wing Elite Conservatives that have their own agenda and platforms who are Anti- Minority and who are Hell bent against illegal immigrants (mainly Mexicans after stealing their land)
Partial synopsis.
“They have their own agenda, are anti-minority, hell bent against immigrants”…
You’re describing the PLP, right?
Went right over your heads. He spelled it Barclay because a few elite well-connected people got rich off it.
It’s a bit like how Kunta can’t spell Cannonier.
Or ‘the’.
… or his name.
Actually,it’s also pronounced wrong. By mostly everyone.
We know where it came from. And hes spelling and pronouncing it wrong as well. Watch the movie.
The amount of public’s money blown at Port Royal.
Man, that’s hard to take.
we tax payers should take our land at Port Royal back and farm dat bitch so that we can feed our families…there’s plenty more spots to hit a little white ball!
I honestly think that Bermuda has now grown up and lost it’s innocence and that we’ve all outgrown the PLP and how they play their politics. Bermuda wants and deserves better!
Yet somehow you’re more at ease with a party that resorts to manipulation to win an election (through a surrogate Premier)and then use their power serve the interests of well-to-dos and foreigners, including ALLOWING the granting of the Bermudian voting right to foreigners.
*yawn*…that’s getting old don’t you think?
Just as old as de Oligarchy (Forty Thieves, Front Street Boys)
@ SMH
Exactly!!
that’s all you got….what you think about the missing money at port royal?! you lot are sooooooft~
I think you’re being a little hard on Dr Brown, here. It’s not like the Uighurs can vote. (Yet?)
Terry Lister comments on the Sandys South bye-election, said on Monday, November 17:
“Everyone should look within their own heart and decide, should they be casting a vote and if they should be, and I would suggest they should, who really can best run the country at this point in time. Bermuda is in crisis. We need steady hands. We need people who have shown an ability to start righting the ship, and whomever you believe can do the better job of that, that person or that party should get your vote tomorrow.
Personalities also have a play in it. At this point in time, I would really look to people to put their personal interests to the side and let those character traits that may be are dominant at the wrong time be put aside and really put Bermuda first. This is a country first time. There’s no time to be fooling around trying to do what’s best for one group and not the other group and all that sort of thing.
It’s a difficult time for the voter even because one party on the one hand is being portrayed as interested in one group, that being the OBA, when I believe they are trying to govern the whole of the country. The other party seems to be projecting a position of only having one group of people that they’re interested in. And that’s no good.
We have to govern all of Bermuda for the benefit of all her people. And anybody who wants to just represent one group and one group only is not the people or persons we need at this point In time.”
And that’s why it’s a good thing Terry is out of politics. We need new ideas and new people to join politics. He’s still mad he never became the leader of the PLP.
I would have been equally happy if the OBA would have won Constituency #33.
Speaks volumes when someone who is obviously not Bermudian calling The Berkeley Institute school ‘…the Barclay School’ and not even bothering to get the name right. Cost overruns are not unique to the PLP by the way. I also find it insulting that people in #33 are accused of only being capable of voting on “..Traditional Political Lines” and not on ‘principle and the betterment of Bermuda’. Does the same go for old UBP (now OBA) strongholds like Paget East, etc? Such hypocrisy.
Just a matter of time: Sorry but your narrow mindedness is coming through loud and clear. You are the post child for voting along traditional lines…even the same week as $20M cost overrun and verbal abuse is announced by the very same Gov. you still try and defend
Following is “hearing it from the horses mouth”
Terry Lister comments on the Sandy’s South bye-election, said on Monday, November 17:

Listening to Terry is like listening to Bernie Madoff talking about honesty.
LMFAO
WOW you obviously aren’t Bermudian
Now your messing with de SACRED cow, that only goes for one segment of de community.
OBA’s argument cannot be that PLP did not manage the public purse well and so we have a right to do the same thing.
If this sequence plays out for 2 more election cycles, Bermuda will certainly be horribly bankrupt.
Governance is critical when times are tough.
The point is they are not doing the same thing. If you think it is the same why complain so much. The OBA are being fiscally responsible. Tell me the PLP were. They were not and even boasted that a balanced budget wasn’t something that Bermuda needed…
Don’t forget Burch saying: Budgets? What Budgets? We don’t have budgets, we just spend what we need to spend……
love the red dress… (The Lady In Red) 3 cheers!!!
No they don’t understand, and that’s how they’re running de country.
LMFAO
SMH. I certainly do not vote along traditional lines and you don’t know me to even make such an assertion. I vote according to my own ideology and according to who I feel will look out for all of Bermuda instead of the elitist private few at the expense of the masses. The OBA Govt simply do not espouse that according to history (then UBP) and even now with lip service only. Now regarding cost overruns, I offer no excuse for that in either administration. I am just saying don’t make it seem it was just the PLP that did it. I trust that is clear.
Well we all know that when a certain segment of de community F!@#s up there is a valid excuse.
Is this you trying to further prove my point? The only thing you left you was reference to “real” Bermudians. All I’m saying is that voters should vote based on the integrity of the candidate this is especially true for #33. Tweet tweet
Elitest private few….like the ones that benefited from the Port Royal debaucle? Or the new Court Building? It’s all about to come out. I agree a Government that ignores it’s poor and shackles them and their offspring to financial servitude and serves only an elite few is not the best thing for Bermuda.
My only bias was being truly offended by the ignorance of my Alma Mater’s school name being spelled wrong without a care! And rightly so!! I am a proud Berkeleyite and NO Bermudian knows it as the ‘Barclay School’. Respice Finem!
School??? That’s a term you applied LOOSELY.
Gonna be close.
Party or a growth in better governance.
Shalom.
Please note how quickly the Green candidate runs from his party leader when he takes the mic! lol!
“Deceit, fraud, lies, hoodwinking….at some point it’s got to stop and I hope this is the first step to stopping it.”
How oh so RICH this is coming from Bean.
If these truly are Mr. Terry Listers comments @Raymond Ray,I Commend him for having the “Testicular Fortitude” to eXpress his thoughts and views on the eve of a bye-election that has been riddled with political symantics and posturing by both sides. US, the Bermudian electorate deserve better and Mr.Lister has spoken volumes by his words. To both candidates….I wish them well on their future endeavors doing Bermuda and us Bermudian voters proud no matter who is the victor nor the vanquished.
From this day forward I am hopeful a new day is upon us….where we truly understand the value and strength we hold at the ballot box and using it ever so wisely. Bless Up Bermuda!!!!
Sorry but Marc Beans’ grammar is TERRIBLE!!! That is all.
Ill rather listen to someone that has a terrible grammar and speaks the Truth than a slick Orator who speaks with Forked Tongue.
Bean lies while using poor grammar.
Agreed!
Aka E.B.
That’s hypercritical don’t u think. You pick on someone who can’t spell but you have no problem with someone who has bad grammar. When and if the plp get back in do you really think Marc Bean is going to be premiere. Not likely.
Did Terry Lister really endorse Mrs. Marshall?
Yes…
That is incorrect. Mr. Lister did not endorse Mrs. Marshall; however, he spoke negatively about the PLP as a party. Two separate things – - but you can’t see it that way can you Mr. Ray?
Mr Simmons would probably join a search party if there was one. The only less credible person around is Flip Flop and that’s a toss up.
Still he will probbaly get voted in which says a lot about voter intellect up the west end. Must be in the water.
So what’s in Your water, that you would vote for Georgia?
What does it say about the “…voter intellect up the west end”?
Excepting defeat already, awww come on now.
You really think the word is “excepting”, don’t you.
It’s almost funny.
Excepting and Accepting are not interchangeable. They each mean very different things.
What a Kunta.
indeed…what a kun’ta
PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP PLP
Aaahh did I get that right ?
If I didn’t can you correct it for me too.
Make all the ignorant noises you want, the Progressive Labour Party are still the Opposition. Did I/we get that right…and you understand ?
BOO HOO HOO.
I don’t live in #33 and don’t really care for either candidate. But anyone voting for a guy with his record – needs their head looking at.
Agreed!
Putting all bias or political preferences aside. How can anyone in good conscience vote for a candidate who aligns himself with the party leader Michael Bean.
The guys attitude is attrocious and his ability to have any rational or positive thought seems to elude him. All he ever talks about are conspiracy theories and alleged deception in Goverment. He seems consumed by this when you hear him talk, and he will also elude to things but never provide any facts to back it up. He eluded to all sorts of conspiracy on his latest visit to the Sherri J show but never provided any solid evidence to support his case.
Those are not the traits of a good leader, I predict a leadership struggle in the coming year for the PLP. There is no way the Bermudian public is dumb enough to elect a party with this guy at the helm. Surely, our opposition party the PLP can do better than this!?
Wait until his recent comments are made public! Ganga gate will be old news
TRUTH CAN BE OFFENSIVE HUH!!
HYPOCRITISM RANKS HIGH IN OBA-ISM.
Well said @ unbelievable.
Somebody (anybody) who has been alligned with every party and only recently resigned in disgrace should be unelectable just about anywhere. The voters of #33 may just prove wrong. I ask you, is there a doctor in the house?
Oh, and the worst thing you can see about the other candidate is that she pronounced a word incorrectly? Have you listened to the leader of the opposition lately?
There is nothing in the world like a persuasive speech to fuddle the mental apparatus and upset the convictions and debauch the emotions of an audience not practiced in the tricks and delusions of oratory.
One of the Greatest Leaders in your bible was not a good orator, his name was Moses Gen. 4:10
“Be careful of the stairs – they like to move”. One of the prefects in Harry Potter was not a good orator either. His name was Rupert chapter 6.
You are correct and the PLP will still win.
If theres alot of golfers in the area PLP will win, other then that i think its going to be tight!I dont support party politics i think Bermuda is to small for it.I also realize its a tough job to satisfy eveyone. But if PLP wants a chance at getting backin they need to mature some. If you look at some of there recent pics etc.. very childish.
Just saying
Is Mr. Bean referring to his old administration? “We had to deceive you” ..the public became sick and tired of their behavior too and that’s why they lost the last election and a message was sent loud and clear to them….get your house in order!! Having voted PLP , but for the last election, they have done absolutely nothing to inspire me to vote for them next time round…please, let’s grow up and act like we are ready for the world stage…and no more school yard title tattle..have yet to see this from either party….poor Bermuda….we are sinking our standards…
Atilla the hun 1
Georgia Marshall lost…
Any other party in the world would be embarrassed by the guy…
Totally agreed!
Pulp pulp pulp let’s make it happen
Darn these touch screen phone plp let’s make it. Happen
Marc bean….omg…really?
Please people. If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.
Nice
Must be close since they are having to count and re-count !
I am shocked by this result. LoL!
Well, Constituency #33 voters, them that supported the P.L.P. will get everything they’d asked for…Serve you right!
Mr. Ray – are you disparaging the voters that you earlier encouraged to vote OBA?
A little more maturity please.
Obviously, you’ve misinterpreted me…I’d stated them that voted for the P.L.P. will deserve what they get. Now you, or anyone can draw their own conclusion/s.
It can’t be easy for the voters who endorsed Craig Cannonier in Smiths … What a great embarrassment for them !
Coffee, you had better drink some more & get with it. I didn’t know Graig Cannonier represents anywhere in Smiths.
If you want to be taken anywhere near seriously here you had better be able to get some easy facts right.
That was a huge parachute John Barritt give him .
craig has got to be crazy they kicked him out but he is still there with a stupid grin on his face
Just like those who voted O.B.A./ubp are regretting it now.
Next.
You mean like the increase in company registrations, all the new hotel developments, the new airport, the saving of the Grand Atlantic disaster, PATI? No one is regretting the fact that the economy is finally being turned around. Except maybe you
This comment Mr. Ray defeats all the other sensible comments you have made over the years. This is disrespectful and distasteful and I am sorely disappointed in you.
Sad day indeed.
Just as I predicted unfortunately. Anything else would have been highly unexpected.
misery loves company here we go!
Well this will be a very interesting time in Parliament.
Congratulations Somerset for standing strong. Now Mr. Horton you need to make your mind up…Who will u servve, yourself or the people that put you in that position?
Congrats to JS and the PLP!
Wow…a sad day for Bermuda
So Lister endorses the OBA candidate and the OBA candidate loses.
Here is the thing..The PLP stands up for Bermudians.
Bermudians tonight stood up for themselves.
End of Story
Lister needs a wake up call…he forgets who he was representing…( the people).
You guys won with the same percentage split as in the 2012 election in a PLP stronghold. Who is surprised? No one. The PLP should be worried that they have hardly recouped any support in this constituency from the 2012 election.
Anyhow, Lister “endorsed” Ms. Marshall 12 hours before. I doubt most people even heard the endorsement.
Like it would’ve made a difference, he lost his credibility.
Sure mate whatever gives u something to write about. Lmao. Blind faithful to the end. Just make sure u and trew have a good argument next week. Keeps us all entertained.
I have just had a look at the election results for Sandys South on elections.gov.bm. Essentially this about the same percentage split in votes that has occurred in EVERY election in this constituency since 1963! So, no surprise here then. I would have been surprised if the results were otherwise. It seems you could run a lame duck holding a placard saying “Don’t vote for me!” on the PLP ticket and the PLP would still win this constituency… wait… isn’t that what they just did! Lol!
Same goes for in Paget East, and your point is ?
U said that already. Running out of steam already?
She failed !
Really – I would say the outcome was inevitable, and yet she still ran… and now Bermuda knows her mettle. I’d say she has been quite successful in her campaign. It was selfless, caring and considered. Given this was the likely outcome, she has shown herself to be a strong-willed, determined candidate who really cares for Bermuda and her constituency. We are lucky to have her. Can’t say the same for you though.
Actually she took one for the OBA team ! At least she left the poll with a smile !
Smile now cry later.
no need to cry KUNTA. You all Reno like we knew you would but she gave Jamel a run for his votes. The people of #33 have spoken if you don’t know what they are saying well let me tell you. PULL UP YOU SOCK CAUSE NEXT TIME IT WILL BE AN OBA SITTING IN THAT SPOT. Don’t take anything for granted. They could have put your dumb a** there’re and you would have won too. PLEASE!
Georgia, well done for running as a representative candidate for the OBA. It was brave and selfless of you. Thank you.
Of course the PLP won, it could not go any other way. But why was Lister trying to make it all about himself?- all he did- he is a bitter man, move on Lister to the OBA.
Tricks backfire OBA
I’m glad the OBA …. didn’t win.
CONGRATULATIONS JAHMAL, PLP
it is a sad day when the surrogates’ surrogate gets voted in! at the end of the day the puppet master is the same ! usual suspects come to mind! and it is not brown i mean!
Can’t we all just get along. So many hateful comments on this site. What a shame.
This election was so full of hatred and inuandos i would not be surprised if all the groups of people that are attacked and offended by the green party reduce spending in the areas that are green.
That’s nothing new, ask those that live in those areas.
the fate of the plp is sealed!
ok!!!! Your comment is as clear as mud.
Congrats to Jahmal! And a reminder to the people – “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
JS will let #33 down you’ll see. It will all be for nothing. Idiotic and mindless voters is the only explanation.
@Christopher James,
You sound like a sour hater. lmao
Nightmare to think about it but just pause for a second and think about Bean, Burt and Simmons off to represent Bermuda in London with the FCO, or the U.S with Senior Admin, or at RIMS, DAVOS…Americas Cup negotiation ??? There is no PLP SPIN to be had at these types of meetings and they are the things that have a huge impact on us…they won’t cut it!!! Wake up die hards! Bean will offend, Burt will be annoyingly arrogant and Simmons will be lost!
and like Marc Bean would say ‘its the trueff’ not ‘truth’ hard to listen to him talk at times.
Marc Bean has a Bermudian Tongue, just like most…..wait for it Bermudians, he should feel no shame about that.
he should learn how to speak properly, he is an opposition leader therefore its a must.
Lol! Those three leading the PLP only serves to encourage Bermuda to re-elect the OBA at the next election… oh… lol! Go Jamahl! Yay! Well done for winning!!!
Well there goes JS for another few years hightailing it back to the East End now receiving a pay check to sit in St George and do nothing. Take a picture constituency 33 cuz u will need to remember what he looks like.
Oh well, there was a glimmer of hope that the voters would use what is between their ears to make a judgment on using their vote but really no surprises on the result.
They will indeed get what they voted for. Looks like the PLP managed to wipe out the memory of 1998 to 2012 & the dismal performance of the PLP which put so many of them out of work.
The bottom line is that the situation remains the same in Parliament. Maybe next time the OBA should give out a free dinner less than 48 hours before the polls open. That is what a vote seems to be worth.
@ Triangle Drifter,
You seem sour because the people of constituency #33 spoke. IF they had voted OBA, they have a brain right? lol I guess your comment originated from in between your legs, because you talk alot of S***! lol
LMFAO
I just love when people eat crow.
It would be interesting to go back to Somerset exactly a year from today and see what their opinion of this candidate is then. A sad day for Bermuda politics
For a stronghold area it is amazing that only 50% of the voters showed up and the OBA loss was not really by that much at all.
If they had shown up the question is who would they have voted for? By not showing up is worse than showing up & deliberately spoiling the ballot. At least by showing up & spoiling your ballot you show that you care enough to to take part but you are not happy with either candidate.
By not showing up at all it is not known whether you don’t care at all or care but are not happy with either party.
What is done is done. Lots of wasted votes by the no shows.
Hope the constituents of 33 took lots pof pictures. Not likely that they will be seeing their rep for a long time. He is happy. He is getting a paycheck off the taxpayer again. No change for Mrs Marshall. She was not in it for the money, earning a very nice income all on here own.
If this is any indication of the mood of the rest of the Island we are in a very sad state. Voter maturity is grossly lacking. Put a bright green Kermit the Frog on the ballot & they will vote for him over a candidate of strong character & integrity.
Politicians generally, are a slimey bunch but there is no way in a mature democracy anywhere else that an organisation headed by the likes of Marc Bean would get the vote that the PLP got.
They wont be around for much longer.
It will be another 12 years and a name change before they get another chance to sell Bermuda out.
p.s. Official name change – whitepplrule
Definitely not a landslide victory.
Goes to show that so long as you have PLP on your back in C#33 that you will get voted in no matter your political history or going back on your word!! The people will get what they vote for unfortunately……
Suck it up OBA supporters; this is just the beginning; you can no longer tell the big lie and win an election.
I’m sorry, are you confused?!? Who’s been telling big lies again?!?!?
This was a decent result for the OBA. The outcome was about the same as it was in Dec 2012, when the OBA won the general election. Usually, opposition parties get a boost in mid-term bye elections – that didn’t happen. The PLP must be concerned.
Kind of missed the numbers there, didn’t you?
Remind us which party “We had to decieve you” came from Alvin.
C33 voters have spoken….hopefully they will be represented well. I wish them well
Congrats to Mr. Simmons.
But both he and his party should take note that in a stronghold constituency the majority spoke by either voting against him or by not voting at all which expresses voters’ displeasure or disinterest in both candidates.
That should be a wakeup call to both parties, but particularly to the PLP because I believe they are well aware that their loss in the general election was at least partly caused by the unwillingness of their diehard supporters to vote for them.
It seems little may have changed in their hardcore supporters.
Hear ye, hear ye. The voters have spoken. Accept the loss graciously and know that all voters get the government they deserve…said that in 1998. So if you didn’t vote then you got what you deserved also.
Mrs Marshall and any other OBA hopeful should start canvassing immediately because something tells me that Mr. Simmons will do something to warrant resigning…maybe another party will come along.
I cannot understand so much negativity.Surely if EVERYONE could pull together for the betterment of the Island, that would help to get back on track.Does not everyone that works have to pay taxes in one form or another. If so what is wrong with Non Bermudians living there having a say and a vote in the affairs of their place of residence. Seems so simple. Work there, pay taxes there and enjoy the benefits of such a fantastic place together. Good luck to EVERYONE.
