Attempt To Create Biggest Electric Slide Dance

For the first time in its forty-year history, Bermuda College will be hosting a Winter Wonderland replete with a Christmas-lit campus, Santa Claus, train rides, fun castles and games, a Winter Wonderland ice sculpture, a marshmallow s’mores stand, Gombeys and an attempt to create the biggest Electric Slide dance on the island.

The event, part of the College’s year-long 40th anniversary celebrations is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, from 5 – 10 p.m. Event organisers have even created a Santa’s workshop where package wrapping and life-size inflatable decorations are being prepared by student ‘elves’.

“This has been in the works for a while,” said Shelley Riley, one of the co-chairs of the Wonderland event. “We’re a community college, and what better way to celebrate the season than to invite the community on campus to share the holiday spirit!”

Admission is free; however, the College hopes to continue to raise funds for student scholarships through the sale of food, raffles and games from more than 40 different vendors. Raffle prizes include an iPad, a hotel weekend, food vouchers and more.

“Every employee on campus is committed to student success,” said Ms. Riley. “There have been hundreds of volunteer man-hours that have gone into this. We see students coming to class and leaving to go straight to work.”

“They’re working very hard to fulfil those further education and career dreams. Everything planned during this 40th anniversary year is going to help our students out. But we also want to celebrate our community as well. We’re the only college in Bermuda; and we’ve been setting Bermuda’s students on their paths to success for a long time!”

Nadanja Bailey will host the event, which will also include an attempt to create the biggest Electric Slide dance performance on the island.
