Shooting In Cedar Hill Area, No One Injured
[Updated] At sometime around 5.30pm this evening [Dec 3] there was shooting in the Warwick area, with suspects on a motorcycle firing at a residence.
Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.
Update 6.33pm: Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that a firearms incident took place today at around 5.30pm at a residence on Cedar Hill in Warwick.
“It appears that two males on a cycle rode next to a home and discharged the weapon and left the area on a motorcycle. No one was injured, and police are asking anyone who was in the area of Cedar Hill and Tribe Road #6 who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police.”
Update 7.02pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service responded to a report of a confirmed firearm incident that took place at around 5:30 pm in the area of Cedar Hill in Warwick and Tribe Road No. 6.
“It appears that two males were traveling on a motorcycle when they discharged a firearm at a residence in the area. No one was injured and the two men then left on the motorcycle.
“Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Cedar Hill, Warwick area to contact Police on 295-0011 or the private and confidential Crime Stoppers hot line 800-8477.”

Ummm…ok I’ll go for it. I am always saddened when a shooting happens. However when will most people on this board and others who think the same realize that this social ill runs far deeper and these guys don’t give a crap about the Americas Cup because this event is so far beyond the reach of many of them benefiting in their eyes. It’s been a day and I have come across many who are not gangsters that still don’t know what the hell this race is all about that gets all this attention. Bermuda has never made a real attempt to clean its own house for decades and allowed the ills to fester and NOW we expect that everyone suddenly play nice because of a race that many still don’t understand yet?? As Malcolm X once said the chickens end up coming home to roost with the head in the sand mentality. When will WE get it together to address these ills based on historical disenfranchisement and systemic racism? Yeah I said it. Oh is it taboo now to even address this subject anymore? Don’t we have the maturity to do so now? Had we addressed this decades ago from the time Sir John Swan said we will have a problem with our Black males and we paid attention or the time we changed the school system all in the early to mid 90′s, we might be further along. You will notice that these guys are around that age. Instead we are regressing socially like it or not. I too would like to see Bermuda succeed with this. But on one wants to hear ‘all that stuff’ and just go straight to locking them up so we can ignore them and have a nice Americas Cup and look good to the world. We all know locking them is not real solution. Someone is always taking their place hence the ill continues. Truth is truth folks how long can you ignore this? At the same time we are preparing for this event why not come together as a community as many have stated to address this ill? We can walk and chew at the same time can’t we? A long as the shootings remain gang on gang eventually it will end through simple attrition. The saddest thing in the world, is that most of these guys are beyond hope because they missed some fundamentals growing up. Our duty is to ensure we don’t also lose the next generation too.
I don’t believe issues have been ignored, per se, but certainly not given any where near the attention that their seriousness demands. So I believe you have a very valid point and I do hope that we will see change happen.
To that end, I hope that you sat down with those who didn’t understand how the America’s Cup would be good for all of Bermuda and Bermudians and explained things to them. Who knows, it might well have given at least one person hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel for those who’ve been unemployed and struggling and that things can change.

Well put ! The minister of national photography seeks the adoration of Front Street only . He and Bobby only work for a certain segment of the community . However the junior minister of photography will attempt to pacify the media ,not the public … concerning gun violence , he’ll fail and a certain media will cover for the both of them ! There are plenty of citizens who could provide the necessary information to bring much of this to an end, or slow it considerably, but they are unwilling to do what is necessary.
Until the people of this country have the fortititude to do what is needed I don’t care what either political party promises, any headway will be minimal within this generation of criminals.
Improving parenting (again up to the citizens), providing jobs and anti-gang programs in the schopls can help save the next generation. I didn’t include education as I beleive improved parenting is more vital to this than more changes to structure, curriculum, testing etc. What we have will work if students come to school prepared to learn and be respectful.
