  2. Devonshire Devils says:

Can we get this under Control now. The Americas Cup is coming to Bermuda. We don’t want to be broadcasted in a negative light.

    • Kunta says:

Um its called Americas Cup, who has more shootings than America

      • Joey-Bag-O'Doughnuts says:

Um, you’re kind of stupid to even compare a country of over 300 million people and an island of approx 64 thousand.

        • Kunta says:

Um can you name a country or Island were there is no crime or shooting.

          • serz doe says:

            Bermuda back in the day.

          • Sky Pilot says:

yes,Lundy Isles, there are many other islands without crime too

as usual, living up to your name.

          • Y-Gurl says:

I can, Bermuda pre PLP and the current BPS administration, look it up!

            • Grizz says:

So we now blame the shootings on a political party?! Such ignorance

          • whatindeheck says:

            whaamaambulance alert.

yes no crime would be silly. But countries without any shootings? Cypris and Denmark spring to mind

            • whatindeheck says:

              Oh and luxembourg.

Oh and these coutries are predominatly white and full of expats.

But I don think this is about race. but these countries are predominatly white and full of expats

      • Franklin jr says:

cup’s named after the yacht not the country, kunta

        • Kunta says:

So has this event been held in America and if so has de social ills discouraged them from having it.

      • Edmund Spenser says:

On a shootings per person basis, Bermuda by a significant number.

      • ole Onion says:

Lol !!! Do u lot care to comment on the subject ? Or just comment on what others write ? Smdh !!! Darn shame !! No wonder so many miss the Point !!

      • Longtail says:

Actually it is called the “America’s Cup”….. named after a boat, NOT the country.

  3. Anonymous & upset says:

Devastating to see such a report on a day that as an island we should be celebrating the victory of receiving the bid for Americas Cup. Just gives the critics more excuses as to why we shouldn’t have been selected to host. Truly disgusting…. Disheartened and Disappointed. WHEN WILL THEY LEARN??!

  4. Rhonnie aka Blue Familiar says:

This one is way too close to home for my liking. And not a good sign on the day we are celebrating such a great thing for Bermuda.

Come on, we need EVERYONE on board here.

  5. Paul Revere says:

So I take it that the USA should NEVER host the America’s Cup.

HERE’S SOMETHING FOR YOU TO CHEW ON

    San Diego violent crimes

    MURDER 47
    RAPE 315
    ROBBERY 1,531
    ASSAULT 3,671

    • Anonymous & upset says:

I am not saying that. Just simply stating that it is sickening to take advantage of a night when there is so much to be celebrating for.

    • Kunta says:

I guess we should portray that this is an Utopia Island were we all live in peace, love, harmony and equality.

    • Kangoocar says:

Very nice Paul for your facts and figures!!! What you seem to conveniently omit is the population of San Diego??? So I will furnish you with that, it is 1.356 million!!! Take our 60,000 and compare our crime stats and we actually don’t look so good do we????
It is now high time for us to get serious with these oxygen hoggers and when caught, put them in front of a a real jury!!! That jury in my opinion should be brought in from elsewhere in the world!!! I bet if we did that we would not have so many of these types still roaming around causing their carnage!!! They would be spending their days looking out from behind metal bars and that is exactly were they should be!!!!!

      • Kunta says:

Um can you name a country or Island were there is NO crime.
And to add to your stats we have one of the most densely populated per square mile, the most bars and liquor stores per square mile and migrant workers have a higher % of employment than de natives, perfect recipe for disaster.

        • Edmund Spenser says:

          Sealand

        • Sky Pilot says:

          Kunta,
shut up,there are many other Countries and Islands without crime

          • Kunta says:

            Can you name them.
            IM WAITING.

          • Carlton Smith says:

Go ahead and name them then.

He didn’t say the didn’t exist. He asked you to name them.

You said they exist, so go on and name the ones you KNOW.

        • Enough says:

Newsflash Kunta – there are no natives to Bermuda. If you want to go down that route then you should probably realise who first set foot on these islands…….

        • born Bermudain says:

          So true

      • steve says:

Odds of being murdered in San Diego 1 in 25000. In Bermuda 1 in 5000.

    • Joey-Bag-O'Doughnuts says:

Hey jack***, did you bother to mention the population of San Diego and Bermuda?

  6. irritated says:

These guys clearly need the regiment so they can aim a flippin gun! Losers!! So sick of them!!!!

    • PBanks says:

No, I wouldn’t want these kind of guys in a position of defending our country in any sense. They need to be caught and punished, and if rehabilitation is possible, go for it.

    • born Bermudain says:

Regiment is the reason any of them ever fire a gun so think bout that . its full of ish it makes them want guns. teaches them to use them for 3 years why ? Then can’t even help us if needed . they are not trained for a real war so stop teaching them bout gun an teach them bout chainsaws that’s all there good for clearing the roads after a storm

  7. come on says:

    shooting at a HOUSE?

First off they shouldn’t be shooting at anything because they shouldn’t have guns….however what exactly is accomplished by shooting at a house? Break some windows, dent some walls, hit the wrong INNOCENT person? Get it together people. This is pathetic.

    • Joey-Bag-O'Doughnuts says:

      Most likely warning shots.

    • Kunta says:

So how do you think de guns get here, remember when a well respected person from overseas that was caught with ammunition and nothing serious came out off it, do you know de amount of guns that are used by SAILORS who travel around de world to protect themselves from pirates, so what makes you think that one of them, just one of them stays behind at a port they visit, and how many world traveling vessels are thoroughly searched.
Things that make you go Hmmmm.

The Americas, or America, also known as the New World, are the combined continental landmasses of North America and South America, in the Western Hemisphere. Along with their associated islands, they cover 8.3% of the Earth’s total surface area (28.4% of its land area).

  10. this behaviour is unacceptable.

  12. Stunned... says:

Propose anyone charged with having firearms, committing to kill or any heinous offices be held on remand until 2018…justice is not delayed, merely deferred.

    • Carlton Smith says:

      Stupid theory.

People get charged on mete suspicicion and are often innocent.

When investigation concludes they are released uncharged.

You hold ME for 4 years and I am innocent, when I come out, you’ll be working to pay more taxes when your government has to borrow to pay off the compensation from lawsuits of me and others.

We have laws and a constitution for a reason.

      Read them before making suggestions.

      • Stunned... says:

…as well as they are often guilty. I’m in favour of keeping said menaces off the street for the greater good so that Bermuda can get on with its business of economic revival without these idiots sabotaging our sucess.

  13. Stunned... says:

    typo *offices* = offences

  14. Just a matter of time says:

Ummm…ok I’ll go for it. I am always saddened when a shooting happens. However when will most people on this board and others who think the same realize that this social ill runs far deeper and these guys don’t give a crap about the Americas Cup because this event is so far beyond the reach of many of them benefiting in their eyes. It’s been a day and I have come across many who are not gangsters that still don’t know what the hell this race is all about that gets all this attention. Bermuda has never made a real attempt to clean its own house for decades and allowed the ills to fester and NOW we expect that everyone suddenly play nice because of a race that many still don’t understand yet?? As Malcolm X once said the chickens end up coming home to roost with the head in the sand mentality. When will WE get it together to address these ills based on historical disenfranchisement and systemic racism? Yeah I said it. Oh is it taboo now to even address this subject anymore? Don’t we have the maturity to do so now? Had we addressed this decades ago from the time Sir John Swan said we will have a problem with our Black males and we paid attention or the time we changed the school system all in the early to mid 90′s, we might be further along. You will notice that these guys are around that age. Instead we are regressing socially like it or not. I too would like to see Bermuda succeed with this. But on one wants to hear ‘all that stuff’ and just go straight to locking them up so we can ignore them and have a nice Americas Cup and look good to the world. We all know locking them is not real solution. Someone is always taking their place hence the ill continues. Truth is truth folks how long can you ignore this? At the same time we are preparing for this event why not come together as a community as many have stated to address this ill? We can walk and chew at the same time can’t we? Let’s look good to the world in that respect as well. Looking forward to seeing how many dislikes I get which is an ostrich barometer to me. I’ll get the popcorn.

    • Taking out the trash says:

A long as the shootings remain gang on gang eventually it will end through simple attrition. The saddest thing in the world, is that most of these guys are beyond hope because they missed some fundamentals growing up. Our duty is to ensure we don’t also lose the next generation too.

    • Rhonnie aka Blue Familiar says:

I don’t believe issues have been ignored, per se, but certainly not given any where near the attention that their seriousness demands. So I believe you have a very valid point and I do hope that we will see change happen.

To that end, I hope that you sat down with those who didn’t understand how the America’s Cup would be good for all of Bermuda and Bermudians and explained things to them. Who knows, it might well have given at least one person hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel for those who’ve been unemployed and struggling and that things can change.

    • Kunta says:

Well said, and remember de Dr. recommended a S.W.A.T team and de then opposition were up in arms.
We’re gone past roosting, we’re laying eggs.

    • Creamy says:

      Ever heard of paragraphs?

    • whatindeheck says:

sometimes men just want to see the world burn.

Yes a quote stolen from batman – but that is what we are dealing with here. Weve lost them lets work on those we can save

  15. Oh,I see now says:

I do not wish this on anyone but one day they will shoot up a house and injure or kill one of their own relatives that happen to be in the vicinity…………but hey they are holding it down for their boys.

  16. Truth is killin' me... says:

Boo hoo! Stand apart from the rest and make something of yourselves!! Only you can do it or go through life blaming it on someone else. Pathetic.

  17. Me says:

So , who are the parents? Get a hold of your (bleep) kids. We are sick of this crap!!!! I have sons & they ain’t doing this (bleep). We have had enough!!!!

  18. Budmon says:

I say we take all these bies to the national stadium give them all ak-47′s and whatever theyre hearts desire and let them all just shoot one another should help out our problem a little bit.

    • Impressive says:

Do you honestly believe that will solve the problem?

  19. Smart Gal says:

    You posters are kinda nut-so.

These shooters don’t care if it is the Americas Cup, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, May 24th, Good Friday or even Mother’s Day for that matter.

Legalize Marijuana now – taking away some of their main gang business and once and for all clamp down, hard as can be, on hard drugs. This will sort them all out. Plus the police know who they are. Start looking into their bank accounts, spending. Hit them were it really hurts, in the pocket book. Seize all their assets, take their parents into custody and make them talk.

Good grief it isn’t rocket science.

    OBA get this done now!!!

PS – And stop all these gangs from bringing in the prostitutes, this will at least make them cry.

    • imyourGOD says:

And if you take away a criminals income he will look for other criminal income….THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR SAYING. They arent going to go and get legitimate jobs if dope is legalised. They will do home invasions and other new types of crimes not found in this community. WHY???? because they are animals

  20. imyourGOD says:

Is this the talent pool the PLP constantly refers to ??? lol

    • Grizz says:

Oh right because the OBA pool has all smart people in it? Please sdfu

  21. boogiedownproductions says:

We never hear from the man who at the last election campiagn stated vote OBA and we will stop the gun violence. This was just to fool the electorate.
It seems the Minister of National Security spends more time hiding than facing up to his words.
When will the OBA be truthful to us the voting public about matters of their platform?
Why are our citizens living in fear when you promised this would cease?

    • Creamy says:

And when stronger laws were proposed, Bean complained “they wanna lock up our people”.

    • Kunta says:

Ya, remember when there was an armed robbery in his area and he made a rare appearance on the matter, so unless it hits close to home …………………….

      • Cafe Au Lait says:

Kunta: I guess you are pretty fortunate to be living on an island off Massachussetts.

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

you were stupid to believe a statement like that so blame yourself not them.

    • Coffee says:

Well put ! The minister of national photography seeks the adoration of Front Street only . He and Bobby only work for a certain segment of the community . However the junior minister of photography will attempt to pacify the media ,not the public … concerning gun violence , he’ll fail and a certain media will cover for the both of them ! That is how they fulfill their outlandish election promises by and large .

    • jt says:

There are plenty of citizens who could provide the necessary information to bring much of this to an end, or slow it considerably, but they are unwilling to do what is necessary.
Until the people of this country have the fortititude to do what is needed I don’t care what either political party promises, any headway will be minimal within this generation of criminals.
Improving parenting (again up to the citizens), providing jobs and anti-gang programs in the schopls can help save the next generation. I didn’t include education as I beleive improved parenting is more vital to this than more changes to structure, curriculum, testing etc. What we have will work if students come to school prepared to learn and be respectful.

    • Truth is killin' me... says:

@boogiedownproductions…you sound like “Booggie Nights”…go the hell home and go sleep!

    • whatindeheck says:

crime/murder and gun rate is down by a huge amount since the OBA came into power. What you are saying is nonsense.

      • Grizz says:

Do you really believe that the rate has gone down because the OBA are in power? Lololol you are dellusional.

  22. The One Bermuda Alliance had said prior to election that they will stop “de’igrance” but we must remember, it’s not the O.B.A. handing out guns or leading gangs…Them that are doing the “igrance” are relatives of our people and without the assistance of them this type of “crap” will continue.
Of course we all want the madness to stop but we mustn’t blame the Govt. / Opposition for the shootings, we must blame he them that do know much more but aren’t telling the authorities.
