60 Ft Boat Sinks During Recent Heavy Weather

A 60ft cabin cruiser sunk near Cavelho Bay, Somerset recently afyer the vessel’s normal drainage system had been overwhelmed by backwash from shore during the recent heavy weather.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “An off duty Police Sargeant reported a 60ft cabin cruiser sunk near Cavelho Bay, Somerset. Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre contacted the registered owner who secured a marine contractor to remove the vessel.

“The vessel was lifted by crane barge on the following day. The vessel’s normal drainage system had been overwhelmed by backwash from shore during the recent heavy weather, causing the vessel to sink.

“Bermuda Radio had briefly issued a Local Navigational Warning, drawing the attention of mariners to the hazard, until the vessel was removed.”
