Patrick Tannock Elected New ABIC Chairman
[Updated] The Association of Bermuda International Companies [ABIC] today [Jan 20] announced the election of Patrick Tannock, President of XL Insurance [Bermuda] Ltd, to the role of Chairman.
Mr. Tannock replaces George Hutchings who has completed four years of service as Chairman of ABIC.
Mr. Tannock joined the ABIC Board in 2005 and has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2008. Mr. Tannock stated that he is very pleased to be taking on this important role.
He said: “At ABIC, our mission is to promote a sound business environment in Bermuda for the international business community and to advocate for balanced government policies that maintain Bermuda as a well-respected domicile of choice, while respecting the aspirations and values of Bermudians.
“Through the Education Awards, ABIC continues to lead in offering scholarships to qualified Bermudians with financial need and supporting studies in areas related to international business.”
Mr. Tannock thanked Mr. Hutchings for his dedicated service as Chairman. He commended him for his solid leadership of ABIC during the past four years.
He said: “George has led ABIC with a strong spirit of collaboration, including key stakeholders and Government, which I intend to continue.”
Mr. Tannock also noted that Bermuda, like many countries around the world, has experienced and continues to face accelerated and unprecedented change.
He said: “The issues we are experiencing are not unique to Bermuda. We are very much a part of a global village so in order to remain relevant and respected as a leading business jurisdiction, we must ensure that Bermuda is internationally cost competitive, maintains a low barrier of entry for financial and high-quality intellectual capital and continues to identify ways to enhance our value proposition. This includes focusing on providing superior services and execution excellence while remaining user friendly and solution oriented.”
Mr. Tannock added: “Bermuda has a great track record of responding to opportunities and challenges that come from change. If both Bermudians and internationals work together, I am confident that despite facing unprecedented challenges, we will continue to evolve as the jurisdiction of choice.
“I look forward to working with the ABIC Board, our membership, the Government and the community to promote and preserve Bermuda’s reputation as a desirable destination for business.”

Congratulations Mr Tannock
Hey, PLP, where was the press release offering your congratulations to Mrs. Gail Martin on her election as chair of the Bermuda Foundation for Ins Studies a few weeks ago. BFIS, by the way, gives out a few hundred thousand dollars in scholarships every year, probably more than ABIC.
No disrespect to Mr Tannock, but this PLP press release reeks of an ulterior motive!
She’s female, the PLP have strong opinions on females lol.
Hint. Patrick’s political affiliations are well known within the PLP.
Politics aside, it is great to see Patrick as Chairman of such an influential organization. He is there because of merit and nothing else. Congratulations.
Come on “Inna”. We have to stop this petty politricking at every turn. I really don’t care what Mr. Tannock’s political affiliations might be. By all accounts he has been promoted to the Chairmanship of ABIC purely on merit, and the PLP has every right to congratulate him on being promoted to this position. If he also happens to be a PLP member then that too is good for the country because we need people of his quality to help us move forward together.

ABIC is the largest needs based scholarship on island. Many ABIC members also give their own merit based scholarships. Congratulations Patrick on your election to this role.
