Importing Cannabis: Man Sentenced To 9 Months
Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Feb 4], Andre Martin-Lewis, 24, was sentenced to the nine months he’d already served whilst on remand at Westgate Correctional Facility.
He was also given an additional year, that was suspended for twelve months. The sentence included twelve months probation during which Mr Martin-Lewis must undergo anger management counselling.
That was the sentence handed down by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo after Mr Martin-Lewis had been convicted of the offence of importing over 734 grams of cannabis that had a street value of over $74,000.
Mr Martin-Lewis had originally appeared in Plea Court last year and had been granted $25,000 bail. However, he was unable to meet the bail conditions and had therefore been remanded.
The pre-sentencing Social Inquiry Report indicated that Mr Martin-Lewis was unlikely to re-offend.

regardless of how long it takes to prepare a case and go to trial the sentence time should only start when the verdict is given. if it took a year to figure out that he has to serve a year for the offence, great, he gets to serve two years.
The man spent nine months in prison on remand, this time was taken into consideration, where are you when they routinely bail violent offenders or child molesters , acquit them, or mete out grossly inadequate sentences?
