Troy Tucker Scores Twice For Tampa University

September 4, 2015

Tucker_JTM8060Bermuda’s Troy Tucker has gotten his University of Tampa men’s soccer team off to a great start, scoring two goals to push his team to a 2-1 victory to open their season.

The game went into double overtime, and with only 53 seconds remaining, Tucker hammered home his second goal of the match to put his team up 2-1.

The UoT game report said, “The University of Tampa men’s soccer team started its season on the road at Spring Hill College Thursday night [Sept 3].

“The Spartans came out victorious 2-1 after two overtime periods and racking up over 109 minutes of play at Library Field.

“Tampa controlled the tempo of the match but lacked execution as they outshot and outhustled Spring Hill. UT was awarded five corners and fired off eight shots in the first half, yet still went into the half trailing 0-1.

“The second half began with a bang, as Troy Tucker put away a goal at the 46-minute mark to bring the Spartans level.

“Tampa would continue their up-tempo pace to create as many opportunities looking to notch the game winner and almost did on several occasions following several key corner kicks by Keith Francisco.

“After the final whistle of regulation, both sides were still chomping at the bit to earn their first win of their 2015 campaign. Tucker stepped up for his team in a big way with his late game heroics driving home the game winner after a shot from Jason Collister rebounded off the post.”

The Spring Hill match report said, “Junior midfielder Troy Tucker scored both goals for the Spartans with the winner coming off loose ball in the box that sophomore defender Bryan Tissott poked toward Tucker who found the goal from less than five yards out with just 53 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

“Tucker’s first goal tied the game at 1-1 just 31 seconds into the second half when a blocked Spartan shot resulted in a free-for-all in front of the pipes that ended when Tucker struck from six yards out.”

Tucker, a graduate of the Berkeley Institute who has been selected as a GACCP player of the year as well as a NJCAA All-American, is majoring in physical education at the University of Tampa.
