Jahday Ford Exhibits Glass Artwork In UK
Bermudian glass artist Jahday Ford is exhibiting his Bantu collection at the British Glass Biennale in St Helens, England.
The exhibition opened on August 28 and runs until November 1 at The World of Glass as part of the International Festival of Glass.
A total of 82 artists were selected for this year’s Biennale, which showcases contemporary glass art, with works available to purchase.
Ford, 32, specialises in hot glass and mould design, combining glassblowing with digital design to create contemporary objects that challenge traditional forms.
His work explores the relationship between glass and digital design, drawing on his Afro-Caribbean heritage and Bermudian influences.
Mr Ford, who is also a musician, performing under the name Obeka, studied 3D and Craft Design in Glassware and Glassmaking at Manchester School of Art.
He received a BA in Three-Dimensional Design, specializing in hot glass fabrication and mould design.
“There’s Bermudian colours and rhythm in my artwork and sculpture,” Mr Ford said.
Ford began working in craft while studying at CedarBridge Academy before moving to Manchester at the age of 16.
“I want my artwork and music to cross paths and create a brand and feel for what I do that people instinctively recognise,” he said.
“The trick is to try to juggle my art and music and not lose focus of the fun and passion for the things you do.”
Mr Ford’s artwork was previously on display at the British Glass Biennale four years ago.

Very nice to see Mr. Ford’s glass work and read about his journey. Maybe his work can be showcased in a Bermuda gallery before too long. Masterworks? BSOA? Black Pony?
