“Standing In The Shadows Of Motown” To Screen

June 11, 2016

The U.S. Consulate and the Adult Library will continue the Bermuda National Library’s regular Consulate Night at the Library series at 6.00pm on Thursday, June 16 with a screening of “Standing in the Shadows of Motown.”

The film is a documentary that recounts the story of The Funk Brothers, the uncredited studio musicians who recorded and performed on Motown’s recordings between 1959 and 1972. The film covers their career via interviews with surviving band members, archival footage and still photos, dramatized re-enactments, and narration by actor Andre Braugher.

Trailer for ‘Standing in the Shadows of Motown’:

U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig will be present to help lead discussion after the film, and said, “This is the extraordinary story of musicians whose music we have always loved but who have gone unrecognized for far too long. This is a chance to recognize the talent and accomplishments of these artists.

“I would also note that anyone interested in borrowing the film should contact the U.S. Consulate at 295-1342. My appreciation goes to Head Librarian C. Joanne Brangman for partnering with the Consulate to host these regular gatherings.”
