Video: RenRe & Premier Ring NYSE Closing Bell

June 2, 2016

The Bermuda flag graced the iconic New York Stock Exchange this afternoon [June 2] as the NYSE welcomed Premier Michael Dunkley and executives and guests of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. to ring the closing bell to highlight their 20th Anniversary of listing and the New York Recovery and Resilience Leadership Forum.

The New York Recovery & Resilience Leadership Forum was held today at the NYSE, with the forum focused on the lessons learned since Superstorm Sandy, efforts to promote resilience before the next storm, benefits of scientifically sound construction and mitigation, the impact of endemic coastal ecosystems and more.

Live stream replay of today’s closing bell:

Speakers at the forum included Premier Dunkley; Katherine Greig, Deputy Director at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Recovery & Resiliency; John M. Huff, Director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners; Samantha Medlock of the White House Office of Management and Budget; Collin O’Mara, CEO of the National Wildlife Foundation; and Julie Rochman, President & CEO of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.

According to the NYSE website, “Bells were first used at the Exchange in the 1870s with the advent of continuous trading. A Chinese gong was the original bell of choice.

“But in 1903, when the Exchange moved to its current building, the gong was replaced by a brass bell — electrically operated and large enough in size to resonate throughout the voluminous main trading floor.

“Today, each of the four trading areas of the NYSE has its own bell, operated synchronously from a single control panel.”

“One more feather in the cap” Premier Michael Dunkley…

How much did this latest Jaunt costs us Premier? You look as happy as a Kid in a candy store, all while Bermuda’s Kids go to school hungry… Makes me wonder what you are really over there celebrating..

    • Zevon says:

How much did it cost us each time the most recent PLP Premier travelled to San Francisco, New York, the Caribbean, to pick up her various “women’s awards”? Oh yeah. We never found out did we. They never told us how much we paid for her and her entourage to go pick up her vanity awards.
I bet they look great on her bedroom dresser.

      • UNREAL says:

Or there other premier going over to china etc drumming up all that business. As we can see the islands saturated with the Chinese business… How quickly they forget.

    • 32n64w says:

      Cost is virtually nothing.

The Premier attended as a guest speaker of RennaisanceRe who have and continue to contribute hundreds of millions to the local economy.

But why let facts get in the way of your hollow rhetoric? Typical PLP propaganda and part of a sustained campaign of disinformation. How anti-Bermudian!

    • Enough says:

Celebrating that Bermuda is finally getting some traction in our largest market (NYC) probably.

Sit around and moan and wait for handouts. That will get you far….

    • Bermy says:

what a stupid comment…. we run a billion dollar economy completely dependent on outside investment and you’re complaining about our premier taking a quick trip to the largest financial capital in the world.

But hey why not play on the emotions of our populace rather than have real conversations about the serious challenges we’re facing.

      • THANK YOU REnRe- Bermuda is lucky to have you! says:

        Bermy–you couldn’t be more right.

Bermuda’s IB sector plays on the world stage. Its appropriate for our dignataries and key professional stakeholders to be participating in global and vizible events.

This was excellent exposure to the Amercian capital markets for Bermuda.

Thank you RenRe and well done Mr. Premier–you literally waved our flag–can’t remeber the last time I saw a Bermuda politican doing that in fromnt of global media.

        inna….
