OJ Pitcher Reaches 1,000 Eastern County Runs
OJ Pitcher added another landmark to a distinguished cricket career after reaching 1,000 career runs in the Eastern County Cup while scoring an unbeaten half-century for St David’s.
The St David’s captain achieved the milestone during Saturday’s [August 29] rain-affected finale against Bailey’s Bay at Lord’s.
Pitcher came to the wicket with St David’s under pressure and helped steady the innings, finishing unbeaten on 50 as his team reached 122 for four from 27.3 overs before time expired. The match ended in a draw, allowing Bailey’s Bay to retain the Eastern Counties Cup.
The milestone adds another achievement to Pitcher’s extensive résumé. He was a member of Bermuda’s 2007 Cricket World Cup squad and later captained the national team.
During Bermuda’s 85-run victory over Jersey at the ICC World Cricket League Division Four tournament in 2016, Pitcher scored 63 and shared a 211-run opening partnership with Kamau Leverock, who made 137. Pitcher was Bermuda’s captain for the match.
He also produced one of his most memorable innings on the domestic stage during the 2014 Cup Match Classic, scoring 115 for St George’s, including 14 fours and five sixes. He was subsequently appointed St George’s Cup Match captain in 2015.
Having represented Bermuda at the World Cup, captained the national team and scored a Cup Match century, the 43-year-old can now count 1,000 Eastern County runs among the highlights of his distinguished career.
