Pacers Track Club Win Medals In North Carolina

This past weekend saw the Bermuda Pacers Track Club earn a number of medals at the Russell E. Blunt East Coast [REB ECI] Invitational track meet, held at Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

A spokesperson said, “The team competed in ninety degree plus temperature for three days against some 82 other track teams from around the east coast. During the first day of the meet, the team won five medals, with Sancho Smith in the 11-12 boys high jump and the 15 to 18 boys 4×800 metres relay team winning gold medals.

“During the second day of the meet, the team captured another seven medals, with Ryan Outerbridge and Sancho Smith winning two gold medals in the 13-14 and 11-12 boys 1500 metres respectively.

“In addition to these two gold medals, the team had Leekaysia Burch in the 13-14 girls shot putt and Makayla Tucker in the 13-14 girls long jump win silver medals respectively. Both performances were their personal bests.”

“During the final day of the competition the team had athletes competing in the 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre, 800 metre, 4 X 400 metre finals, long jump and high jump. At the conclusion of the meet, the team finished with 12 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals.

“In addition to these medals, Sancho Smith was selected as the outstanding athlete in the 11-12 boys division. The 13-14 boys won their divisions after winning gold medals in the 200, 400, 1500, and 4 X 400 metre relay events, as well as silver medals in the 100 metres, 400, and 3000 metres.

“The team also finished as runner up in the male and female divisions and the overall team scores. This year’s event marked the 35th year that the Bermuda Pacers Track Club competed.:
