Co-Pilot Injured During Around The Island

A female co-pilot was injured after the “pilot and co-pilot were thrown from the vessel into the water” in the area of Five Star Island during today’s Around The Island Powerboat Race, the police confirmed today.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 2:30pm this afternoon [14-Aug], police and first responders attended a marine incident which involved one of the powerboats participating in the Around The Island Powerboat Race.

“It was reported that a participating powerboat was in the area of Five Star Island when the pilot and co-pilot were thrown from the vessel into the water.

“The 47-year-old female co-pilot was taken to Port Royal Ferry Dock and transported to KEMH via ambulance, where she is being treated for a facial injury. The male pilot was not injured.”
