Rugby: RAN Caribbean Championships Lineup

May 11, 2018

New Bermuda Head Coach Peter Lewington has named a strong lineup for Rugby Americas North [RAN] Caribbean Championships with six new players to the squad making their debut for the Bermuda National Men’s XV team.

The RAN game will take place at National Stadium North Field on Saturday 12th May, with kick off at 3pm. Local Mariners player Alex Doyling will be boosting Bermuda’s pace on the wing whilst ex-Stirling County fly-half Brian Archibald brings a greater depth of experience and knowledge to the team.

Head Coach Peter Lewington said, “Archibald has played consistently well for his local club Renegades and apart from his versatility, he gives us an extra option with his right-foot kicking abilities.” Despite announcing his retirement from both local and international rugby last season Mikey Williams will be making a return to the pitch for Bermuda along with stalwarts Tom Healy, Peter Dunkley and Dustin Archibald.

Head coach Lewington believes that whilst we still have many experienced players in the squad, the younger members who are now available for selection will add a different dimension to Bermuda’s gameplay and bolster their offensive strategy.

“I’ve watched some of the younger lads in the team during the local rugby season perform very well for their local teams and I believe that their skillset will be well utilized at the national level. I am aware that USA South typically has a fairly youthful team and I believe the new additions to the team will create a great challenge for them.”

Lewington added, “I am aware that Bermuda has not done as well in the past few years as they would have liked but I am concentrating on the game on Saturday. The boys are up for each game this year and of course they would love to win the championships but we’ll take each game as it comes.”

The team includes: Pernell Brangman, Connor McGlynn, Dustin Archibald, Peter Dunkley, Tashon DeSilva, Darren Richardson, Thomas Greenslade, Aldo Campbell, Thomas Healy, Brian Archibald, Alex Brown, Alex Doyling, Connor McGowan, Nigel Burgess, Dan Cole, Mike Williams, Jahan Cedenio, Danny Pell, John Quigley, Corey Boyce, Jahniko Francis, Mikey Dill and Chi Smith.
