Ministry Issues Advisory On Hurricane Florence

The Ministry is reminding everyone that all public services, including Government Offices, public transport and public schools will be “open and operational” on Monday, September 10th.

“As a public safety note, the south shore will experience unsettled surf conditions associated with Hurricane Florence, and the public is encouraged to use caution on those beaches,” the Ministry said.

This comes as the BWS states that Hurricane Florence is a “potential threat to Bermuda”, with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hours forecast to be 313 nm to the SSW at 7pm on Tuesday [Sept 11] with the BWS noting that “this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period.

This afternoon (Sept. 9) the Ministry of National Security provided the following Hurricane Florence public advisory.

As of the 12 noon update Hurricane Florence is currently located approx., 652 nautical miles SE of Bermuda moving west at 5 knots. The next Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) update on the system will be at 6.00 p.m.

The Ministry is reminding that all public services, including Government Offices, public transport and public schools will be open and operational tomorrow, September 10.

As a public safety note, the south shore will experience unsettled surf conditions associated with Hurricane Florence, and the public is encouraged to use caution on those beaches.

The Ministry reminds the public to adhere to official information from official sources regarding all public services, such as the BWS, the Emergency Measures Organisation, the Ministry of National Security and the Department of Communications. As a note, the Emergency Broadcast Station on 100.1fm is operational.
