Shooting In Devonshire: 28-Year-Old Man Injured

[Updated] There was a shooting tonight [Sept 20] in the Roberts Avenue, Devonshire area, and initial reports suggest someone may have been injured. Multiple police vehicles and officers are on scene, and an ambulance was seen leaving the area.

Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 12.48am: Bystanders indicate that a man may have been shot in his leg.

Update 6.46am: A police spokesperson said, “At 11:47pm on Thursday, Police responded to a report of a firearms incident that took place on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire.

“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 28-year-old male was shot in his leg and subsequently was taken via ambulance to King Edward 7th Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

“Police have commenced an investigation into this incident and are appealing for anyone who may have any information on this incident to please contact police on 2950011 or of course the confidential crimestoppers Hotline on 800-8477.”

Update 2.19pm: A police spokesperson said, “Detectives investigating a firearm incident that occurred shortly before 11:50pm Thursday, September 20th on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire near Derwent Lane South renewed their appeal for witnesses or persons with relevant information to come forward.

“It appears that a group of men were congregated in the area when a gunman opened fire.

“A 28-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later discharged. There were no other injuries reported and the scene was processed by the relevant police personnel.

“Anyone that may have any information regarding two people on a motorcycle acting suspiciously in the Roberts Avenue area around 11:45pm Thursday night – including their direction of travel – is urged to call Detective Sergeant Jason Smith on 717-0864.

“Alternatively, anonymous calls can be made to the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

    Absurd!!…..the authorities can find a guy with a half of a spliff on any given day but can’t detect guns and ammunition that arrive by the only way they can arrive…by air or sea…. smh

    Politicians grow some gonads and revise the penalties…..caught with just ONE round 7 years (yes that round was meant to kill). More than one round?…add one year for each. Caught with a gun?..MANDATORY 15 YEARS plus charged for every crime committed with it and hanged if it was for a murder.

    Black lives matter not to those ordering the action or ones carrying out same. It is time for the Governor to give permission or whoever it is get everybody on police radar….have police at airport n ports to catch them when they run. Get these cowards!!!
