Carrick Finishes 3rd At Polish Jr Squash Open

16-year-old Taylor Carrick took a step onto the podium on Sunday at the Polish Junior Squash Open, a part of the European Junior Squash Grand Prix Series, to receive his 3rd place trophy.

The tournament, which was held in Wroclaw, western Poland, saw 229 squash players representing over 20 countries compete over the 3 day event. Divisions included boys and girls under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19. Taylor competed in the second largest division – BU17.

Playing for Bermuda, Taylor progressed to the quarter finals with a 3-0 victory over Ernesto Revert of Spain and a 3-1 victory over Kajetan Lipski of Poland.

Handily defeating 3/4 seed Daniel Simon of Hungary 11-7, 11-4, 11-5, he moved on to the semi finals. After a grueling 40 minute battle, he went down 3-1 to the number 1 seed, Jakub Pytlowany of Poland. Jakub went on to win the tournament.

Taylor then played for third or fourth position against #2 seed Blaz Porenta of Slovenia – winning decisively in 3 games 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 to secure 3rd place.

Taylor’s next international squash tournament will be the Canadian Junior Open in Niagara from 8th – 11th December where he will be competing in the under 19 division following his 17th birthday.

He will be representing Bermuda alongside his Junior National Squad teammates – Cece Robinson, Ethan Rosorea, Matthew Elliott, Charlie Riker, Josai Williams, Owen Rosorea, Anaya Smith, Andrew Cox and Abigail Brewer.

Taylor will then continue on to the US Junior Open, the Scottish Junior Open and the British Junior Open over the Christmas holidays.
