We have been inductrinated with Eurocentric culture and Galas for centuries, so we celebrate something we can identify with.
I guess if it was a Christmas theme and dressed up as Santas and elves, you would be satisfied.
Get over it, this is our time and we decide how we celebrate.
      HO HO HO

      • 2 Bermudas says:

    • Onion Juice says:

Do you or did you tell your children about Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny, then let us enjoy our Afro-Centric moment in History after being indoctrinated by fictional Eurocentric Holidays and beliefs.
Get over it, its a new day.

    • 2 Bermudas says:

      • Wakanda Forever says:

You people are funny. Wait for certain articles to share your misery, suffering and ignorance

  6. Wahoo says:

Err you do know that Wakanda is not a real place right?

    • johnBoy says:

      Don’t tell them. Lol

    • Wakanda Forever says:

Err but you do know millions of Brits voted for Brexit and just as many Googled it the next day though???

      • Wahoo says:

Good point about people voting when they have no idea about what the consequences might be or the REAL issues that exist.

        • Wakanda Forever says:

Once again your narrow mindedness proves that given a meal you will only complaun of its contents.
Tgis hunger strike your on is going to be your own demise. Maybe someone will step in and help you make better choices one day. Meanwhile I’ll continue eating!!!

          • Wahoo says:

Deep. Don’t forget to drink the kool-ade and titty milk.

          • wahoo says:

Well make sure you include lots of sugar in that diet you are on (we need the revenue) and try to cut back on the titty milk.

    • Onion Juice says:

Ya we know, but it feels good knowing that we enjoy and feel proud of a story that depicts us as Powerful People and controlling our destiny, after we had our Culture stolen from us and that we’ve been living in a society that gave us a false impression of equality and acceptance.
      Wakanda Forever.

      • Question says:

I guess when you have no actual culture other than anti-gay, anti-foreigner and anti-“people who don’t look like you” there is no choice but to use fictional history.

      • 2 Bermudas says:

You are welcome to leave at any time!! Go live in Wakanda if it’s so great!!

    • PBanks says:

So what? Should people not dress up as Santa Claus and have Christmas themed events? You must complain about Halloween and people dressing up as Harry Potter or Batman or Elsa from Frozen.

  7. Gustav says:

Oh we still have Money for that ?
Weit it is just for PLP followers

    • Wakanda Forever says:

Gustav, here are some options and information your comrades neglected to inform you of

1.Become a member (you to could attend) or be invited by a member!

      2. The event was not put on by the Government therefire it’s money was NOT spent to host it!

3.Stop hating and blindly following others who are ignorant!

Ps PLP event could have been a hint but you just mindlessly fell in with the chorus sung by the regular naysayers

  8. Wakanda Forever says:

UBP haters, who cares if it is not a real place?? The history UBP gave us was’nt real either!!!

    • Toodle-oo says:

The UBP ‘history’ that gave us 30+ years of economic and political stability and created the most prosperous middle class anywhere in the world ?
Yeah , it’s obvious that a whole lot of people here really do live in a fantasy land in their own minds.

    • facts of the rock says:

I’d really enjoy giving you a history lesson!

      • Wakanda Forever says:

Had ‘your,’ version of history and we are still discovering how much bs was deleted, edited and ignored. No thanks. ‘Your version is wrought with lies and long tales!!!

        • Karen says:

Why don’t you stop with all the hate, that does not solve anything. Yes things happened in the pasted, but things happened in everyone’s past. We don’t live in the past, we have learned from it and now we as humans have the choice to to be KIND yet people like you have to keep on HATING. STOP IT!!!!!!!

      • Onion Juice says:

While they were in the Caucasus Mountains discovering fire, we were building pyramids.
        How’s that for History.

        • WillSee says:

You the mean the Egyptians not africans!!!

          • 2 Bermudas says:

Thank you, Onion Juice is dumb as titty milk!! Ha ha ha!!

        • 2 Bermudas says:

You don’t have a clue about how de pyramids were built. Titty milk got you sayin’ anything!! Ha ha ha!!

    • Wahoo says:

Too bad plp history is real $3B debt! UBP created a place with oportunity for ALL and plp destroyed it and we might as well be a fictional place in the mind of a child.

      • Wakanda Forever says:

Once again Wahoo standing on a soap box spouting rubbish!

Do Bernews readers a favour and find another hobby. Hate is out of fashion mate. Also, it really bores people who are moving on with reality!

      • Wakanda Forevet says:

That way Wahoo gets to have more people in his fictional world hahaha!!!
        Delusion Wahoo is lonely folks

      • Wakanda Forever says:

Your ‘QUEEN’ is fictional!!! Like you falsehood spread for so long nimbleminded folk fall for it!!!

        • 2 Bermudas says:

De queen runs Bermy. If you don’t like it go to Wakanda. Ha ha ha!!

        • Anbu says:

Oh she is is she? Thats why she lives in an actual palace, and has an actual throne, with crown and septre included? Royal guard, army, navy? I suppose all that is fictional. Falsehoods? Lmfao. How abt the lie that our economy is better under the plp for falsehoods? Lmao oh man.

    • promise one thing but provide another says:

Oh I get it, they “live” in Wakanda so its okay to leave the bus system broken in Bermuda…

      • 2 Bermudas says:

        True dat!! Ha ha ha!!

      • Wakanda Forever says:

Once again UBP/OBA spin doctors putting out narratives so far fetched for any midly challenged individual to latch onto and run with LMHO

      • Wahoo says:

Oh I get it…in Wakanda anything can happen and imaginary money is accepted by banks, pigs can fly and nobody questions what fellow Wakandians do. Wakanda place is dis?

        • Wakanda Forever says:

Wahoo, as I have previously stated you need to find another hobby!!!

Like Jack & Jill books your narrative has long been apart of adult peoples reality!

    • aceboy says:

So we are pretend playing? That fits in well with the whole crypto currency idea. Let’s pretend it will help the economy.

  9. Playstation says:

Most of the people that voted this crowd in are struggling every week to feed to themselves and here these people are gloating and having a good time making out they are Royalty.

    • Wakanda Forever says:

This is your accurate knowledge based on ???? Do you have any facts on the same group of voters when UBP/OBA held functions and were voted in????

Go watch the game were statements are based on facts.

  10. Question says:

Wakanda. A place created by a couple of Jewish New Yorkers. Interesting theme.

    • Wakanda Forever says:

A themed event by the PLP and you UBP/OBAers run with it? Hmmmm????

      • Question says:

You have a problem with me saying it was an “interesting theme”?
Or do you just have a problem generally?

  11. J says:

What a joke!! These people are sickening. Wakanda Royalty? Delusions of grandeur and these are the same people who will whine about two Bermuda’s! They don’t care about “two Bermuda’s” or Bermudians struggling, they are only concerned about bettering their own personal situations. What a grotesque display of hubris.

    • Wakanda Forever says:

Not as delusional as that Royal family out of England!

      • Anbu says:

But they are an ACTUAL royal family and all the hating in the world will never change it.

  12. Catherine Woolf says:

Beautiful outfits….was this a charity event?

  13. Codfish says:

    Burt and wife look amazing!

  14. Me says:

Well Wakanda / Bermuda is another world

  15. Congrats says:

They look great. So many who voted for them were present. A great fund raiser that was sold out. Outstanding. The PLP has to remain focused because there are so many grenades and traps being laid for them no matter what good they do.

  16. Bermudaheart says:

The PLP Gala was am awesome event. It was beautiful to see Bermudians wearing clothing from all over the Continent of Africa. It is noteworthy that there are people critiquing the African Dress and have little understanding of our direct connection with the Continent of Africa. Wakanda is a fictional country from the Movie Blackpanther. Do you think people are that simple that they do not understand Wakanda is a fictional city ? Yes watched a room filled with beautiful people adorned in traditional African dress. I listened to the stories of women getting their make up done, learning how to wrap thier heads with the traditional headdress. I listened the vendors who sell African Clothing speak of the high volume of patrons in their stores. My daughter, niece ,My nephew and I had amazing time looking online and going to all the locals vendors preparing for the banquet. That was the beauty of the event, my family has been able to learn about Africa it’s customs and its people.

Some mischievous people who have commented above have spoken about the costs of the tickets. Yes the tickets cost $150, but this event is a PLP fundraiser, the PLP has to fund a myriad of things and this is one of the ways the party raises money to underwrite costs The party also gave away scores of tickets to people who could not afford to attend the event. 4 people at my table were given their tickets free by their MP.

It was also amazing to see the PLP donate money to 5 local charities last night.

Also, is it a crime to have fun ? Can’t members, family amd friends of the PLP have a night of fun and celebration ? I say yes ! Congratulations. This was my first PLP Banquet and it will not be my last. !

    • Yahweh says:

But the whole notion of Wakanda is racially devisive, don’t you see that?

When the truth is Bermuda is starving and gloating on how well off you are is disgusting.

If this were the OBA there would be marches, no wonder the 40% are angry.

      • PBanks says:

Explain how the concept of Wakanda, a (fictional) nation is racially divisive. One would think the history of how Africa was torn up during colonization and concepts of apartheid and the like, would be a more suitable target of anger?

Would modern-day Kenya or Nigeria or Congo be more palatable to the ’40%’?

As for the hosting of galas, well it’s established that the PLP have held these events for some time now on a regular basis, they seem to be popular and seem to raise money for the party’s coffers (and whatever charities they choose). For whatever reason the OBA and UBP before it don’t take this route with regard to fundraising. But is that the fault of either party that this is the situation?

      • Onion Juice says:

        Then organize your march.

    • Rocky5 says:

WAY TO GO PLP – looking more ROYAL than British royal family.

    • Onion Juice says:

And on top of that if it was’nt for Africa, Europeans especially in the West and America would’nt have the undesrved privilege that they enjoy today. They benefit by 400 years of FREE labor from the People, built up wealth by stealing precious materials from the land and they even have zoos because of our animals.
      Wakanda Forever.

      • 2 Bermudas says:

Who is they? Titty milk got you sayin’ anything again!!

    • aceboy says:

So you are in it for the parties and the play acting?

      We are still broke.

But yea, pretty dresses, lots of jewelry….while your supporters deal with reality you lot live it up in a dream land. Two Bermudas indeed

  17. Double S says:

Wakanda is the PLP’s version of their ideal Bermuda. They don’t even try and hide it anymore.

  18. Paz says:

A stunning lack of diversity and inclusion.

  19. Rocky5 says:

PLP, doing what they do best – putting on “de parties” for “Bermudian Royalties” !

  20. Sister Grace says:

You say the PLP gave out free tickets and also donated to charities. So tell me whose money did they use to give out these so called kind gestures. It sure as heck did not come out of the MP’s personal pockets. Please cut the crap Bermudaheart think before you write. Some of us were not born yesterday. Next!!!

  21. Khalifakhan Fashala says:

A noticeable absence of youth … not sure what the intended purpose, however some display of cultural shimmer connection within the parameters of a system of white supremacy. Does not go far enough for effective change.

  22. Mark says:

When i saw this headline, i actually laughed out loud. Is this what we have reduced ourselves to now? A cartoon? All to drum up support? Oh forget about the fact we are doing nothing but hurt this country, you should support us. Smh. Time to wake up bermuda.

  23. This bie says:

You do realize that wakanda is a fictional place created by a couple of the whitest dudes ever right? But there are still homeless people and seniors that can’t afford medication. Carry on

  24. Paz says:

The problem is not with the celebration of our African heritage. The problem is that the selection of a heritage theme that represents just one section of the population is not the work of a thoughtful, inclusive national government. It is appallingly insensitive.

    • PBanks says:

Why can’t white people (or people who aren’t black), enjoy the Wakanda theme? Was the Black Panther movie only designed for black people? Did no white people watch and enjoy the film?

I’d like to think that a white person could attend the gala, just the same way that a black person could attend say a Vikings-themed or Chinese-themed party.

There are several things to be frustrated with or outraged at the PLP itself, but this shouldn’t even be in the same neighborhood.

  25. Kris says:

OK WHERE DO I BEGIN? The PLP spent how much $$$$$$$$$$ on a ‘GALA EVENT’ with a FICTIONAL THEME to celebrate its 20 year anniversary of capturing the BERMUDA GOVERNMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE PARTY?? AND JENNIFER SMITH, A “NO INDEPENDENCE IN OUR FIRST TERM AND NOT IN OUR SECOND, AND MAYBE NOT EVER” IS NOW TOUTING INDEPENDENCE???? HAVE THESE PEOPLE LOST THEIR EVER LIVING MINDS????? YOUNG PEOPLE TAKE NOTE! Especially the Youth of BERMUDA! The money these clowns spent perpetuating IS PROOFTHAT THEY DON’T GIVE A DANG ABOUT YOU! NONE OF THEM ARE TRYING TO BUILD A SELF-SUSTAINING ECONOMY! Anywhere from $30-50 Thousand dollars was spent on tickets to glorify foolery. Just think how far that money could have gone towards buying land for you young folks to cultivate and build self sustaining enterprises! But instead you see the SELFISH SHORT SIGHTED EMBARASSING FOOLERY OF THESE SOCALLED LEADERS! This Gala event was nothing more than a gut-wrenching reminder that the PLP SQUANDERED AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD AN ECONOMY FOR ITS PEOPLE 20 YEARS AGO! SO YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO LOOK TO THE ALMIGHTY AND NOT THESE FOLKS WHEN IT COMES TO SECURING YOUR FUTURE. The PLP unfortunately is OBVIOUSLY TOO BUSY BEING DISTRACTED BY MARVEL COMICS!

  26. Yes I says:

Ahhh the ignorance on here is overwhelming. Great theme and I’m sure it was a great evening.

    • PBanks says:

Indeed. Perhaps if the theme was Asgard it wouldn’t get as much vitriol.

  27. Mrs Brady says:

Bermuda should go independent as soon as possible and change its name to Wakanda.

    • Bs says:

If we were smart we would name one of our remote islands Wakanda and offer flights to Bermuda to see it and run a concession on it! Free advertising and a tourist attraction!

  28. Karen says:

Where is the diversity, all I see is people dressing nicely only to spew out hate. Hope the party was not on my dime?????

    • PBanks says:

The hate being spewed isn’t from the nicely dressed crowd, it’s those on this board who are saying things like “What a joke!! These people are sickening.”

  29. sandgrownan says:

Noone really gives a flying f*** what fantasy dress up party the PLP faithful want to enjoy. It’s irrelevant.

What is clear however, is that it’s not exactly inclusive is it?

And, it has about as much grounding in reality as the PLP platform, so perhaps it is appropriate.
