Bascome To Coach National Men’s Cricket Team

The Bermuda Cricket Board have announced that on the recommendation of the High Performance Committee, Herbie Bascome has been selected as the National Men’s Coach beginning March 1st, 2019.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Cricket Board is pleased to announce that on Wednesday January 30th the BCB Executive unanimously supported the recommendation of the High Performance Committee to appoint Herbie Bascome as the National Men’s Coach beginning March 1st, 2019.

“Following a best practice and transparent process the High Performance Committee selected Mr. Bascome as the best candidate to navigate the performance of the national senior men’s squad.”

President of the BCB, Lloyd Smith, said: “I congratulate Herbie on his appointment to Head Coach. Herbie has devoted his life to our great sport and brings great passion and experience to the role.

“Bermuda has a very busy schedule ahead with our participation in the 50 over ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League which will feature 3 tournaments in 30 months and even more frequent T20 commitments.

“We are excited to be hosting the regional T20 qualifier in August and looking forward to Herbie leading our players into one of the two qualifying places to the global qualifier in November.”

Newly appointed coach, Herbie Bascome, said: “I am very grateful for the opportunity that the Board has given me to lead our country’s national cricket team. I have been fortunate to have had outstanding experience as Assistant Coach to Gus Logie when we were a Division 1 team.

“I am fully committed to moving our cricket back towards those high performance levels starting with a strong showing in August in the T20. I encourage players to commit to playing for our country and restoring pride at the national senior level.”

      Is this one of those Somerset vs St. George’s things or is there something else at play behind that remark?

      Lord knows fans of Bermuda cricket are hoping that the new coach can help get the national programme on the right track.
