Talented Artist? Apply For City Art Initiative

February 6, 2019

The City of Hamilton has released a Request for Proposal for the 2019 VIVID: City of Hamilton Public Art Initiative.

Over the past four years, the City has installed eighteen pieces of public art around the City including murals, mosaics and the Chancery Lane lights.

The City said the VIVID Art Initiative is “committed to working with Bermuda’s local art organizations as well as independent artists to help curate and implement public art installations in the City of Hamilton, contributing to its mandate to be a vibrant city.”

A spokesperson for the initiative said, ‘This year we are looking for artists to submit installation proposals at several identified, but not limited to, locations.

“At the beginning of the year we put the call out for private property owners to submit their property for consideration and we are pleased to report that three highly visible, yet privately owned locations have been added to the list for possible mural installations and we’re open to more suggestions that might accompany any submissions.

“Of course, the appropriate permissions from the property owners must be in place but it’s a great opportunity to expand the public art around the City and not just limit it to City-owned properties.

“In addition to murals, this year we are also encouraging sculpture submissions. We have several vacant spaces throughout the City and our parks that we would love to see unique, dynamic and colourful sculptures so hopefully we’ll get some great suggestions with locations to consider.

“Of course, we love all the beautiful murals and look forward to those submissions but we’re also excited about the possibility of different artistic expressions gracing the City.’

“Artists interested in submitting a proposal can collect the RFP documents, outlining the scope of the project, from the City offices in City Hall. The documents can also be found on the City’s website at www.cityofhamilton.bm.

“All submissions for consideration must be either emailed to jpitt@cityhall.bm or delivered to the City Hall offices no later than Monday, February 25th at 5pm.”

Have they replaced the beautiful chancery Lane lights yet? Best artistic alley in Bermuda. More of that will revive the place.
