Bermuda Police Set To Assist Turks & Caicos

October 22, 2019

Three Bermuda Police Service officers will be deployed to Turks & Caicos following a request from the Commissioner of the Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force.

A Bermuda police spokesperson said, “Following a request from the Commissioner of the Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force for specialist capabilities, three Bermuda Police Service officers will be deployed to assist.”

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley said, “It is important that we support our colleagues in other British Overseas Territories as we would expect the same of them.

“The cost of the BPS officers’ deployment will be met by the Turks & Caicos Islands and the initiative will also give valuable experience to the three officers, which they will bring back to the BPS.”

A story in the Turks & Caicos Weekly News said, “Police officers from Bermuda will arrive in the territory next week to lend assistance and investigative support to the local force as it battles to curtail the ballooning crime rate.

“During the conference, Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said he welcomed the additional support from the Bermuda Police Service.

“These officers will be placed where they are needed the most, and coupled with our officers working around the clock will transform the TCI into a place where criminals think twice before breaking the law.”

This story is a reminder that we also need assistance from time to time from other British Territories as well as the UK.
Going independent may dissolve that needed arrangement.
