Vessel Runs Out Of Fuel With 2 People Onboard

The Bermuda Regiment responded and were able to assist after a 21ft vessel ran out of fuel just east of Whalebone Bay, Ferry Reach with two people onboard.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Radio is advised by the 21ft vessel SWEEDS II that they had run out of fuel and were anchored just east of Whalebone Bay, Ferry Reach with 2 people onboard. There own efforts to arrange assistance were unsuccessful and assistance was requested from RCC Bermuda.

“In response to broadcasts for help on VHF channel 16, the Bermuda Regiment responded and were able to assist. The disabled vessel was landed safely at Coney Island, and the two onboard went ashore to return with fuel on Friday to recover the boat.”

    I hope a bill will be sent for the cost of the Regiment responding. Neither the Regiment or the BPS marine section is a free towing service.

    1/3 tank to go out. 1/3 tank to come back. 1/3 tank reserve for the unexpected. No such thing as going out with an estimated “Just enough”. Nobody is walking on water to go get more gas.

    Give the people a break, they anchored and tried to get private help. Maybe their reserve jug was old or contaminated.
    Why be nasty online if you follow boater’s code and help everyone in crisis.

    Do you have kids who took chances? Did ever do yourself?
    The ⅓ lesson is good. Who teaches it to newbies?
    Need licensing for boat operators , Many learned the hard way.,
    A mandatory course might help refresh or be a breeze.
