Appleby Support Restaurants With Gift Cards

March 30, 2020

Appleby’s Bermuda office is supporting local restaurants by giving all its employees $100 gift cards to use for takeout meals, or in the restaurants when they open again.

Bermuda Managing Partner, Tim Faries said: “Appleby has deep roots in Bermuda and we wanted to do our part to support the local restaurants that are struggling right now.

“We also wanted to thank our people for all their hard work and dedication as they work from home, like so many others, during this challenging time. We are gifting these cards to our cleaning crew as well, to further support where we can. We recognise that we all need to do our part to help the economy.”

“We contacted one of the restaurant groups last week and asked them how we could purchase more than 100 gift cards without having to hand-deliver them given the need for social distancing,” said Mr Faries.

Philip Barnett, President of the Island Restaurant Group [IRG], which runs Barracuda Grill, Pickled Onion, Hog Penny, Brew and Frog & Onion, and his team, spoke to their POS provider and found a way to provide ‘virtual’ gift cards given the large quantity needed. Most restaurants have printed gift cards which can also be purchased.

Mr Faries adds, “During these unprecedented times, supporting each other with acts of kindness is needed for our economy and our people.

“We would like to encourage other companies or individuals to purchase restaurant gift cards for takeout meals, or to purchase other valuable gift cards, whether for their office or for someone who is financially, or otherwise, impacted.

“Perhaps someone wants to purchase a gift card for their child’s daycare provider, their hairdresser, or for an elderly neighbour who is housebound. We can all do something to help.”
