Wayne Furbert’s Letter of Intent to Join PLP
Scroll down to read the full text of the letter from Former Leader of the United Bermuda Party [UBP], and Independent MP Wayne Furbert announcing to his constituents that he will join the Progressive Labour Party [PLP] tomorrow.
Mr. Furbert spent part of today delivering letters to his constituents in Hamilton Parish.
Dear Friend,
“There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them”. Denis Waitley
I write you today because I have made a decision after consulting many of you and I want you to know before the rest of Bermuda hears about it. Hamilton Parish and its people have been good to me, for which I am deeply grateful. Over the years I have done my best to represent you with honesty and integrity.
It has been over 40 years starting at the age of 14 when I became involved politically. During this time I have directly and indirectly worked to improve your lives.
- I was there when the playground was put by Shelly Bay Beach and when the request went in to put the boardwalk along Shelly Bay Road.
- I was there when the Shelly Bay field and the basketball court was improved.
- I was there when improved Bus stops and crossings where put in.
- I was there with many of you when you had deaths in your family, sharing many of your pains and joys; and when I could not be there my prayers were there.
As you are aware I resigned from the United Bermuda Party about a year ago, and have sat in Parliament as an Independent.During this period I have talked too many of you to seek council. Above all I have prayed asking God to order my Steps. As a result I have decided at this time to offer my service to the Progressive Labour Party and to help take Bermuda forward.
I know as you read this, some people are happy and some are disappointed for which I understand.
I want you know that I have changed the flag I carry, but I have not changed my heart.
What I bring to the Progressive Labour Party and Bermuda is a person who is a hard worker, considerable experience politically and a businessman. Politically I have held the following senior posts.
- Minister of Culture
- Minister of Health & Social Service
- Minister of Housing, and Minister of Transport
- Political Party Chairman and Leader
- As a businessman I have worked as an Auditor, I am a qualified Certified Public Accountant and own several businesses.
Tomorrow I will inform Parliament and the People of Bermuda about my decision. You can listen to my speech on the radio at 10am.
Thank you for your confident in me.
May God Bless You and May God Bless Bermuda
Wayne
