malaikah abdul jabbar bermuda 2In what must be one of the quickest “sell outs” of a Bermudian book in history, “Stop the Shootings” which was authored by 7 yr old Malaikah Abdul-Jabbar has sold out in under a week.

In news that her mother acknowledges may distress some, there will not be another printing of the book. Her mother tells us there are only 300 copies left and will be distributed to the government primary schools.

Maliakah held her book launch on the steps of City Hall on Tuesday April 20, and sold hundreds of copies at the event.

The family says “they believe that limiting the supply will force our Bermudian People to cherish and hold dearly to heart the voice and words of our very young.”

Malaikah Abdul-Jabbar leaves Bermuda today [April 25] to travel to the International Reading Association [IRA] annual conference in Chicago. She will give a presentation tomorrow, and return to the island on Tuesday.

Malaikah will be in very esteemed company as a presenter, joining notables including former US Vice President Al Gore, and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan. Malaikah will be the youngest presenter in the 55 year history of the conference, which is expected to attract around 15,000 attendees.
