Decorated Firefighter Retires After 28 Years
A decorated firefighter has retired from the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service after serving for almost 30 years.
Divisional Officer Howard A. Caisey joined the Service as a volunteer in 1972 and became a fulltime firefighter in 1981. He became a fully qualified Emergency Medical Technician in 1983 and was promoted to Leading Fireman in the same year. He was then promoted to Sergeant in 1983, Lieutenant in 1989 and Divisional Officer in 2003.
He has participated in many training exercises in the United Kingdom, Canada, Texas and Barbados. Divisional Officer Caisey has served in the Operations, Staff and Training Divisions as well as serving as a BPSU shop steward. During his career he has also fulfilled the responsibilities of Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer.
Divisional Officer Caisey received a citation for rescuing a young man who was buried under a pile of rubble and also received a bravery award along with several firefighters for valiant rescue attempts of four persons trapped on the causeway during Hurricane Fabian in 2003.
