2010 Cup Match Ends In A Draw

July 30, 2010

In something many started to anticipate hours ago, this year’s Cup Match has ended in a draw. Rain forced the officials to suspend the match for safety reasons, and just before 6pm today [July 30] the official decision to end the match was made. The rain had poured down for hours, and while the officials were debating whether the game could continue, spectators began having a “waterslide match” on the pitch.

This is the fourth year in a row the match has ended in a draw, with the last time one side won being 2006 when St George’s won by 7 wickets. The four consecutive draws are the second longest in Cup Match history, bested only by a stretch in the 1970s when the match ended in a draw for five consecutive years.

17 yr old Deunte Darrell, who was the overall top scorer, wins Cup Match MVP, and veteran Dwayne “Sluggo” Leverock wins the Safe Hands Award. Both cricketers play for Somerset.
