Cup Match Waterslide Contest Underway

July 30, 2010

The rain may be upsetting hardcore cricket fans, but not everyone was deterred from going onto the pitch due to the rain, as a new sporting event came to fruition this afternoon: Cup Match Waterslide.

Following the suspension of the Cup Match cricket game due to rain, spectators took to the pitch, some in bathing suits, and following a sprint to the pitch they threw themselves to slide across the tarp-covered pitch to the cheers of the crowd:

It started with a few, and grew into a large group:

Update 4pm: Officials from Somerset Cricket Club say they are trying to protect the pitch underneath the tarp, and asked the sliders to stop, they didn’t, so the Police came on the pitch about 2 mins ago and stopped them and cleared the pitch. The official decision on whether to call the game or not is not expected to 5:30pm.
