  1. bermuda has become another world says:

Wow what have we come to?? The very sad thing about this nonsense is that it,s happening on such a regular basis that most of us have becoming immune to the shootings and gun related incidents throughout our beautiful Island home. Where, how or when will these cowardly acts come to a end??? After living in the united states for 13 years never dreaming I,d ever see this in Bermuda and always saying that if I were blessed with children this is the place I,d want to raise them and now I have been blessed with three and Im very fearful of what thier future may be like growing up here.Athough there is never a reason truely to justify the taking another life these guys seem to be acting out simply because they can and I beleive they feel it is so easy to escape the law simply because so many others have gotten away for far to long with the same idiotic crimes. Im always so amazed how other law enforcement agancies in other juristictions can resolve so many of the same type crimes in much larger places then Bermuda. anyway I think I,ve said enough and pray that these creeps are caught and are given the harshest of sentences maybe sending them to other third world countries where Im sure the accomadations wont be as plush as fairmont southampton.

I don’t feel immune personally. I am very depressed and frustrated at the state of crime and the loss of life. My son is 18 years old and it saddens me to no end that mothers and fathers are losing their children. There is a point in a young persons life when they have to make their own personal choices. Our deteriorated society of greed and quick money and lack of consequences and inappropriate media influence, presents an easy road (initially) that turns into a destination of violence, drugs and heartache. And when they reach that destination, they are completely disillusioned and don’t value their own life, let alone others!! There seems no quick fix. No person outside ourselves to blame. Obviously those who break the law, need to be punished to the full extent of the law. Apart from that, I think the best that we can all do is follow the words of that song. I’m looking at that man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways. No lesson could have been any clearer. If you want to make the world (or in this case Bermuda) a better place, you’ve got to look at yourself and make that change!! YOU have to be that change, YOU have to look at things differently and YOU have to do things differently and YOU have to treat people differently. Set an example people!!!!!!!

Bermuda has always been another world. We aren’t immune to the shootings, it’s a reality now. It’s still a sad and terrible thing.

    • bob todd says:

clearly not immune, however disturbing and destructive…maybe with a change in leadership we will address real issues that plague bda…time for selfless and not self serving politicians to serve our people.these kids that are killing each other were 7 years old when the plp assumed power…they own the problem and instead of golf courses and capital projects managed by people that don’t look like me, we need to consider the plight of our young men a capital project..maybe then real money, resources and enthusiasm will surface…i would even turn a blind eye to the usual kickbacks..maybe…

      • miss bermuda says:

These boys do not care about leadership!! Their parents, friends and associates are all grown adults who know right from wrong. The majority of these older menaces have been tormenting each other for years, now they are using guns to do so. How about everyone stop pointing fingers and families start by taking responsibility!!!

        • bob todd says:

How about appreciating the fact that a good government does it’s best work when it is proactive..Did I not say these thugs were 7 when this govt. assumed power?? Yes parents have a huge role to play, however great leaders emerge during crisis situations.

Let’s be honest and agree that, if this mayhem was taking place under the UBP , we would be marching in the streets calling for the govt to be removed, or worse…

          • ok says:

I do agree with you Bob about what you said in your last paragraph, but not to sound as if Im pointing fingers, it was the last Government which in my opinion helped in some of the social issues we are having today. In what way you may ask? It was the UBP Govt who changed our school system to what it is today. The schools and this zoning school system is not working here on this island. We are segregating our youths to certain areas and then we wonder why they wont get along with kids in other areas. eg.If a child is born in Somerset he goes to daycare in Somerset, nursery in Somerset, Primary School in Somerset, Middle School and when they get to high school level you send them to Cedar Bridge or Berkeley and expect them to get along? We are building and indirectly supporting the gangs with zone schooling. When we were going to school you may have lived in St. George and went to school at Sandys, there was none of this Town and Country crap. Do you realise kids from Town cant travel no further west than Ice Queen in fear they maybe attacked and now shot. This is crazy!!! I think we need to revemp our school system again. Zone schooling was tried and it is failing us!!!

          • Ya'll are just not smart enough says:

These thugs were 7 when this govt. assumed power……………that may be true bob todd, but the problem still resides with the govt. before them, they planted the seed and now like the majority of their supporters and whomever else are pointing the blame at the current govt. For those that are realists know that before the schoold system changed, Bermuda was pumping out loads of smart educated young adults whom actually had some type of self respect and respect for others and wanted to do something with their lives. Once it was changed to a system that everyone knew did NOT WORK, everything went down hill! If you look at Bermuda records, this has happened once before in our history. Years ago a certain govt decided to close all the Tech schools for one reason only, Bermuda was turning out too many qualified masons carpenters plumbers etc etc. Fast forward to now, we were turning out too many insurance professional and business professionals on a whole hence the change in the school system again. I’m just saying, if the shoe fits, by all means WEAR THE MOFO’s!!

  3. Roslynn says:

To bermuda has become another world..what is happening in Bermuda is no different from what is happeninng in the states where you previously resided! The only reason why it seems more prevelent here is that we are only 21 square miles and everybody knows everybody. I am not saying that what is happening is right but it is not unique…

    • bob todd says:

wrong ..stats / facts indicate that bda is now paradise lost..

    • Margaret says:

per capita rates would not support the fact that bermuda is no different than the States. Our armed violence rates are very high for our population.

      • Roslynn says:

My point is that shooting is not unique as I stated above..I am not talking about stats, per capita etc… shootings happen world wide…and the only time we here in Bermuda talk about them is when one occurs…no one comments, you don’t hear from the support groups etc when all is calm and nothing is happening….but the minute the natives get restless than everyone wants to come out of the woodwork.. It’s my opinion and I am sticking to it…we are not uninique or exempt from what is going on in the world…and to bob todd bermuda has been paradise lost for some time know because we have failed in so many other areas so lets not place the blame on the shootings

  4. Sharon Brown says:

Blessings Bermuda ! I recently visited your beautiful Island and to my dismay I am still in shock ! The Island is no longer the Island I saw in all the travel brochures thats for sure ! I saw many run down buildings and abandoned properties and many disparaging faces in the crowds of Hamilton Bermuda.
Gang and gun violence has plagued Bermuda and Bermudians seem to like pointing at other races or groups and fail to implement any solutions. Mother’s are crying , people are dying, police are under the cloud of corruption and the political leaders are fighting for power and fame ! My word to all Bermudians is this: MANKIND IS UNDER SIEGE ! Unite With Truth !
