Investigation Into Shooting In Sandys Continues

[Updated] The 25-year-old Sandys man who was shot early yesterday morning [Nov 14] was treated and discharged from the hospital, and the police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone that may have seen any suspicious activity in the Daniel’s Head area to contact them.

Around 2:40am yesterday, police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Nine Beaches/Daniel’s Head, with the 25-year-old man taken to hospital after being shot in his lower extremities.

A police spokesperson said, “The 25-year-old Sandys parish man shot and injured around 2:40am Saturday, November 14th was treated and later discharged from the hospital.

“Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses or persons that may have seen any suspicious activity in the Daniel’s Head, Sandys parish area during the early morning hours of Saturday.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the anonymous and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

Update 12.40pm: Shadow National Security Minister Walter Roban said, “The announcement of another shooting in the Sandys area brings a heavy heart to all in the Progressive Labour Party.

“Our thoughts are with the injured, his family and anyone else who has been negatively impacted by this incident in the Sandys community. We call again on the public to support the Bermuda Police Service in the enquiries with this matter in order to bring perpetrators to justice.”

In addition, area MP Michael Scott condemned the shooting and expressed his relief that the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Mr Scott said his thoughts and prayers are with the 25-year-old and his family, and wished him a quick and complete recovery.
