Photos: The Tropical Storm That Wasn’t
The Tropical Storm that Bermuda had been preparing for never came to fruition, instead turning into a tropical depression then dissipating completely. The closest point of approach to Bermuda was at 3pm today [Aug 8] when it was 44 nautical miles to the west.
Bermuda Weather Service’s 4:30pm update said that the tropical depression had passed its closed point of approach to Bermuda and is no longer a threat. At 5pm, the US National Hurricane Center said that Tropical Depression Colin had “dissipated” and they would not be issuing further advisories on it.
Bermuda did not suffer the severe weather conditions we were preparing for, although many areas did experience rain and the South Shore waters were rougher than usual. The warning signs that had been posted were being ignored by some, with swimmers visible on various South shore beaches.
