September 12, 2010

tools and equipmentA 64-year-old Paget man has been airlifted overseas for medical treatment after being beaten by a burglar at the Tools & Equipment store on North Street in Pembroke early yesterday morning [Sept 11].

The victim, a co-owner of the store, was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of serious head injuries. Initially he was in serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit before being flown overseas for further medical care.

The Police say that it appears that around 12:45am yesterday the culprit gained entry into the store premises and was confronted by the victim who was working late inside the store. The intruder attacked the Paget man with what the Police term “an object” before escaping. Nothing appears to have been taken from the store.

The suspect is described as under 40 years old, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” tall, possibly a dark skinned man of slim to medium build wearing a hat and long jeans.

Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about this matter to contact Detective Constable Eddie Shillingford at the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

As a frequent customer there I’m shocked to hear of this. The victim can only be one of two people who come to mind , and they’re both wonderful individuals.
I pray for a speedy and complete recovery .

In the meantime , Bermuda .. have you had enough of this yet ? We’re long overdue for a serious , no holds barred , get really tough stance.

Demand it from your MP’s , don’t wuss out . The ‘softly , softly’ approach does not work with this bunch of perps and everyone needs to come to grips with that .
