Police Confirm Death of Calvin Hansey
In very sad news that many had anticipated, the Bermuda Police Service has confirmed that the body found on Wed, Sept 8th was that of 75-year-old Calvin “Baldy” Hansey, who had been missing for almost two weeks.
The Police today said “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 75 year old Calvin Hansey Sr. of Pembroke. Mr. Hansey’s lifeless body was found at a Field View Lane, Pembroke property on Wednesday. An autopsy has been conducted; however the cause of death is undetermined at this time. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Hansey.”
At approximately 12:30pm on Wednesday a man’s lifeless body was found in the Field View Lane, Parsons Road area. The Police say that a member of the community made the discovery in an area outside of a house, which was in the vicinity of Mr Hansey’s residence.
Mr. Hansey was last seen at his residence on Friday, August 27th at around 7pm by a family member. Police officers issued public appeals for information, conducted systematic searches throughout the island for Mr Hansey, and members of the public also assisted in searching, as well as placing posters around the island.
One of Bermuda’s best long distance runners in his younger days, Mr Hansey won the May 24th Marathon Derby four times; in 1969, 1970, 1972 and 1974. As he grew older Mr Hansey never gave up his fitness habits, and was a well-known walker in the Devonshire area. His disappearance had concerned many locals, with Mr Hansey well known and liked in the community.
