Bermuda Chamber Choir Performs in New York

October 7, 2010

Last weekend the Bermuda Chamber Choir was privileged to be invited to sing in New York’s Anglican Cathedral (reputedly the largest in the world). Several thousand people were there to enjoy the extraordinary music of ‘Missa Gaia’ (Earth Mass) – which includes a blessing of animals. A 300-strong choir was accompanied by jazz musicians, including ‘Missa Gaia’ composer and multi-Grammy Award winner Paul Winter on saxophone. Other performers included African drummers and dancers. Members of the public were encouraged to bring their pets and as well as numerous dogs, rabbits etc – a camel was the highlight.

This Sunday at 5.00 pm, the Bermuda Chamber Choir is repeating the performance in Bermuda’s Anglican Cathedral. Jazz musicians include a solo saxophonist flying in from Boston, vocalist Joy Barnum (before she embarks on her European tour), an African drum group, children’s choir and more. There’s quite a variety of music and it all promises to be an performance not to be missed. This event is a family experience and is extremely entertaining for children, especially since the audience is partially made up of animals. (Tickets are available on the door – Adults $20, Students $10, Family $50 – animals free).
