Provided hockey reports from this past weekend are below:

Women’s B League: Ravens B vs Cardinals B: Final score: 0-3

This game was due to be exciting as both teams defend and attack well. Both teams exemplified great movement on the ball in defending and attacking, but it was Helen Marshall for Cardinals who beautifully executed a drag push at the top of the circle to put Cardinals ahead 1-0 in the 25th minute which caught the Ravens’ goalkeeper off guard. In the 30th minute Candy Foggo powered through the Ravens’ defense and firmly pushed the ball to the corner of the post for the second goal to end the first half 2-0 for Cardinals. During the 2nd half Ravens forward Tracy Stewart, who was hanging up high, received the ball and advanced into the circle but she was no match for Cardinals goalkeeper, Holly Augustus, who effortlessly cleared the ball. Just seconds in the 70th minute, Nicola Feldman scored from a penalty corner to seal the win 3-0 for Cardinals.

Longtail Canaries B vs Swallows B: Final score: 1-5

Joanna Kingsbury scored a field goal in the 4th minute for Swallows, and Jokiah Richardson scored from a penalty corner in the 18th minute for Longtail Canaries. Field goals for Swallows by Madelyn Moore in the 30th minute, Nicola Wilkinson in the 33rd minute to end the first half 3-1. Jennifer Chisnall scored from a penalty corner in the 38th minute and Madelyn Moore scored her second field goal in the 52nd minute ending the game 5-1 for Swallows.

Women’s A League: Swallows A vs Canaries A: Final score: 3-3

Canaries took an early lead when Joanne Smith-Barrow scored the first goal which was a rebound from the post by Liz Duncan. Joanne Smith-Barrow then, lying up high, took advantage of a well placed ball down the wing from Natasha Halinan, bringing the ball into the circle and scoring to make it 2-0. Swallows scored in the 33rd minute to bring the score to 2-1 at the half.

Swallows equalized during the beginning of the second half, even though Canaries defended the short corners well with some great saves by keeper Tami Ray. Canaries hard work paid off, however, when Maryellen Jackson scored from a pass from Maria Burley to make it 3-2. Swallows continued to fight hard leveling the score in the 42nd minute off the stick of Maria Dobinson for a 3-3 draw.

Ravens A vs Wildcats A: Final score: 2-4

Ravens went into this clash knowing that it was going to be a tough game and played well for the first 20 minutes despite letting in an early goal in the 6th minute which was scored by Suzanna Moniz of Wildcats. The Ravens struggled to find chances in the first half to score in open play due to some great defending by the Wildcats defenders Belthea Pringle, Brenda Smith and Pam Royce. In addition while the Ravens had opportunities to score off short corners in the first half they were unable to convert them due to some fine saves by Wildcats Keeper Michelle Ming. Ravens lost their touch and were slow to react in the latter stages of the first half and Wildcats took advantage of this and continued their attack which resulted in another goal in the 30th minute by Maria Pichery whose reverse stick flick popped over the defenders and slipped under the keeper and into the net.

Ravens seemed to welcome the half time break and came out a different team and started playing their game and fighting for the ball in an effort to tie the game. Their determination paid off when juniors Georgia Harris and Madeline Fox linked up well and won a short corner for the team. This was converted by Jane Pringle in the 43rd minute and then later again she scored another goal from a penalty corner in the 56th minute. Ravens had a chance to take the lead but Tracy Stewart was unable to connect with the ball. This seemed to inspire Wildcats and they capitalized by scoring in the 60th minute thanks to Ryce Trott. She sealed the game for Wildcats by scoring again in the 64th minute. Despite a couple more attacking runs by Ravens, we were unable to come back.

Men’s League: Rebels vs Polecats: Final Score: 0-5

In their first match since returning to the island after winning the 2010 Atlanta Cup last weekend, the Police Polecats continued their good form defeating the Rebels 5-0. The Police got off to a quick start earning a penalty corner in the 2nd minute of the game that was converted by Nigel Deane who fired a shot from the top of the circle straight into the left-hand corner of the goal. The Rebels defense quickly regroup and while the Police continued to pile on the pressure throughout the first half, they were stymied in their efforts through the hard work of Rebels defenders Matt Ferguson, Barry Craine and Scott DeCosta as well as goalkeeper Richard Adlam who produced a series of fine saves. The Polecats finally found a breakthrough off the stick of junior Dylan Pacheco who scored his first league goal in the 27th minute deflecting in a cross from Deane to make the score 2-0 at halftime.

The Rebels got off to a quick and promising start in the second half catching the Police pushed up to high on attack, with junior Alex Godet and winger David Gutteridge linking up quickly through the midfield to develop a 4 on 2 counter attack and were unlucky not to have scored when the shot by Ross Wilyman was brilliantly saved at the last minute by Police keeper Jason Ming. The Police continued to put on the pressure and broke through again in the 48th minute off the stick of Pacheco who scored his second goal of the game of a quick cross from Richard Marriott. The Police added two more goals in the last 5 minutes with Donovan Simmons slotting the ball into the net in the 65th minute off a cross from new comer Andrew Brouwer who drove into the circle and attracted two defenders. The final goal of the game came off the stick of Craig Burt in the 68th minute who somehow managed to deflect the ball into the net with his stick after slipping and falling onto the ground while lying face down on the turf.

Chameleons vs Upstarts: Final score: 3-2

The Chameleons did just enough to run out winners in their scrappiest display of the season so far. Tim Goodyer scored midway through the first half with a well taken deflection. Chances were created but not taken which allowed the Upstarts to come back into the game from a short corner. At half time the score was 1-1. Chameleons came out for the second half with a much better attitude and the constant hustling by Paul Deanes caused Upstarts problems. Bill Spencer slotted home from a short corner. Paul Deans then scored a well deserved goal to make it 3-1. Upstarts caused problems all game and pulled a goal back to make for a nervous last 5 minutes.
